Disclaimer: I don't own the 39 clues.
Jane clutched the oar in her hand tightly and glanced at the bag that her father gave her. It was the only thing that she could save from the fire, besides her paintbrushes. She looked at the beautiful emerald green vial sticking out of the bag and sighed. Because of the vial, Lord Vesper killed her father in a fire and her brother got blamed for it.
Luke drank his part of the serum, and it changed him. It seemed like the Luke Cahill she knew didn't exist anymore. The Luke Cahill that she knew cared about her in ways that Katherine and Tomas didn't. The one who took the serum still cared, but it seemed that he didn't care enough anymore.
Will drinking the serum do the same to Jane? She hoped not. She knew that it will protect her from the plague and strengthen her natural abilities, but was it worth risking her life? Jane wasn't sure.
But her father told her that it was safe. She had to trust her father, but she didn't want to drink it.
He also told her to drink it in an emergency. Is she in an emergency? She probably is, considering her dilemma, but what will the serum do to her? Will it make her care less about the world? Her father told her that she had a gift for seeing the goodness in everything. Does it mean that she will still care about everything, only that she'll care more? Maybe. The thought pleased her.
Her natural ability is the power to create art. If she drank the serum, would she be able to create more art? Of course she will. If she could create more art, the world would be a better place! Jane savored the thought and looked at the serum fondly.
Wait! A tiny voice in Jane's head cried. The serum is bad! It can change you!
Jane ignored it. How can it be bad? It changes you by making you a better person.
No Jane! You must not drink it! The voice urged. Normally, Jane would listen to the voice, but it seemed ridiculous right now.
After I drink the serum, you'll find out that the serum is actually good, she assured the voice.
It's not good Jane! You need to listen to me! You don't need the serum to become better! Look at what it did to your father!
Jane wanted to destroy the voice. It made Father better.
No Jane! He was ill because of the serum! Don't do it! Don't drink-
Jane ignored the cries of the tiny voice and drank the serum.
Was it good? Was it bad? Please tell me in a review!
