Disclaimer: I don't own Fullmetal Alchemist or Fairy Tail
It wasn't suppose to be like this. This is what Father thought as he was pulled into the gate. I was suppose to win! I was suppose to be God! It didn't matter how much he pushed or shoved to try to stay, the hands were too strong. Father was pulled all the way into the gate and waited for the doors to close. He was back to being inside of the gate, all the knowledge and truth surrounding him, but whenever he tried to grasp at it, it slipped right through his hands, no matter how many times he tried to grab it, it was like trying to grab water.
He thought that maybe, just maybe, if he grabbed onto it that he would find something. Just something that would allow him to go back to Amestris and redo his attempts and he wouldn't have to rely on his back up plan. Once, twice, it might have been a thousand or two by now. For some reason, Father couldn't help but feel that the next attempt would be successful or maybe the one after that, but deep down he knew it was impossible, that this was a ploy by Truth to keep him there as he assimilates back into the gate to be nothing again.
He knew Truth knew his backup, but he also knows Truth can't do anything about it because Truth must follow it's own laws. It was time. His effort to take and see all the world's knowledge was in vain and he had to act now or forever be a part of the gate again. When Father absorbed God, he saw the ends of the Gate of Truth. To all the other worlds that it led to and the laws and truths there and at the time, he would have marveled at all the different worlds out there with their own knowledge and to see how different each one was. At that moment is when he created a new plan on the spot. It wasn't suppose to be a back up as much as an extension to his current plan, but now his plan failed and so this became the backup. Using the souls that Father had, he opened a portal into one of these other worlds and kept it open. After finishing off Edward and the others Father was going to cross over and gain all the knowledge that world had.
After all, it was pointless staying in Amestris, he already knew everything that alchemy had to offer, but this new world was exciting. It didn't have alchemy but something else that seemed to defy the laws of science. This world had magic and it was this world that Father was heading too. He sped for the doors of the gate. They were still fairly open but Father had almost assimilated back into the gate and just about as he was to be one with the gate again, Father slipped out.
Meanwhile back at the gate, Truth was thinking to itself. Wide, open grin plastered on its face as always, it was hoping that pulling the knowledge trick on Father would have worked, but it failed, which means that Truth would have to move fate around again, but there were so many different ways it could go around doing this. Choosing one was like trying to choose what kind of cake you want on your birthday.
"OI, ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING YOU MILK-COLORED PIECE OF SHIT!" Oh yeah, there was an annoying blonde midget here too. Truth didn't really like the insult, to be honest it was more the tone of voice Edward used that Truth disliked, even more so then the actual insult. That insult was just stupid. Then Truth grinned as it made its decision and then looked at Ed and finally decided to speak to him in its sing song voice.
"Hello mister Alchemist" Truth swore he saw a vein pop in Ed's head. It never tried of watching Edward, it gave it a lot of amusement.
"It's about damn time you spoke" Edward huffed in annoyance. "So are you going to take my deal and take my alchemy for Alphonse's body?" It was an interesting
deal. It was equivalent and fair. In fact, if certain events hadn't transpired Truth would have accepted the deal and would have been done with the Elric brothers for the rest of their life. There was just a slight problem though. Ed called Truth a milk-colored piece of shit.
"No can do, mister Alchemist" Truth said. Ed was about to protest, but was stopped by Truth. "You see you may want to keep that alchemy of yours for now."
Upon seeing the confused look on Ed's face, Truth continued to explain. "The Gate of Truth is a gate for a reason, mister alchemist, it leads to several different areas. This world and to other worlds, like a hallway with several different doors, the door is the gate, the room behind the door is a world, and the hallway is the area inside the gate." Truth took a pause. "Father opened a door he wasn't suppose to when he had the power and jumped through to the other side. In other words, Father is still alive in another world."
"Great, how does this affect me? Isn't it more your problem?" Ed asked. He was concerned that Father was alive, but it's not like he can cross worlds, it's not his job to go hunting Father. He just wanted Al's body back and be done with everything. The other world can take care of Father.
"Well you see mister Alchemist, in this knew world, Father will gain power and attempt to be God again. When he does, do you think he won't come back for revenge?" Truth asked Ed.
"Revenge doesn't seem like something Father would want. It never was in the first place. All he cares about is his goal to surpass you." Edward countered back.
"True, however, Father was like that because he had Bradley be his wrath. Now that feeling of wrath is back with him. Wouldn't you agree that Father might want revenge if his feelings of wrath came back and even if you still disagree, wouldn't it be better not to take the chance?" Truth asked. It honestly didn't know whether or not Father would come seeking revenge against the Elrics, but Truth figured that it should warn Ed just so that if still refuses the offer, it can rub it into the shrimps face. Ed hated to admit, but Truth did have a point there.
"Wait, what about the toll to go through?" Edward asked thinking he had Truth. "I didn't do alchemy to cross the barrier so you can't expect me to cross, therefore I can't go through."
"Don't worry about the toll to go through." Upon seeing his confused face, Truth added "Trust me." Truth could see the distrust, it figured he had a right to especially with where Edward would be landing. Either way it was about time to tell Edward about all the benefits to doing this little mission that Truth has in mind. Truth knew it was eventually going to win, it played its next card.
"Plus think about all the new knowledge you can gain in this next world. New opportunities to further fortify your alchemy and expand it." Truth knew it was starting to hit all the points to convince Ed and judging from the look on Ed's face, Ed knew it too.
"Don't worry about time" Truth mentioned, already knowing what Ed's next argument was going to be. "The flow of time works differently. your body will operate by your world's time in comparison to the world you'll be going to's time. Which is about ten years a second with the second being your world and the ten years in their worlds."
"With no price?" Ed asked warily.
"No price" Truth responded.
"How the hell is that possible?" Ed asked. He was trying to think of how this was all going to work and he hated to admit it but he might take this opportunity to finish off Father, but there were still some issues that Ed wanted resolved before he jumped on board with this.
"It's because of your universal origin." Truth replied
"Universal origin?" Ed asked. He was trying to rack his brain to see if he had read or researched about it, but couldn't come up with anything.
"Don't bother trying to recall anything about it, nobody knows it exists because it only applies if you try to cross to another world. So let me explain it. You already know that every living thing has a soul and that a soul is bound to a certain universe and the laws of that universe are inscribed into that soul to a certain extent. One of those is time. So no matter what Universe you're in, your body will operate to your universes time since that is where your soul is connected. Of course you can rewrite what universe your soul is inscribed to, but that requires a price and a lot of agonizing pain, more pain then you've ever known, mister alchemist." Truth said with that grin somehow growing bigger.
"Great, well, it's not like I plan on changing my universal origin. Besides, what happens to Al's body? Should I say yes, do I still give up my alchemy after beating Father again and regain Al's body or what?" Ed asked. This would be the biggest part as to whether or not this deal happens or falls through. Ed knows it and Truth knows it as well. But Truth is a sneaky one and already has an answer.
"Don't worry mister alchemist, should you beat Father again, consider that to be the exchange for Alphonse's body and your's too. Full and complete. You will still be able to keep your alchemy. I should also note a free ride home." Ed was really tempted to do this now, but he never really has been separated from Alphonse for a long time and the distance isn't exactly close either, but on the one hand, Ed keeps his alchemy, gets his brothers body and new knowledge that nobody back home has. All for defeating Father and not having contact with Alphonse either. It was going to be hard but...
"I'll do it." Ed says. He hoped Al would forgive him for doing this without talking to him first, but this was too good of an opportunity. Truth was grinning from ear to ear.
"I should mention before that you also aren't completely human anymore either." Truth mentioned. A second passed. Then another. Ed and Truth were just staring at each other for the longest time. Truth was surprised Ed could go so long without blinking and then
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN I'M NOT HUMAN" Ed shouted, clearly confused and angry a bit. Truth almost chuckled.
"Remember when you fought Pride and used your soul as a philosopher's stone?" Truth asked
"Yeah" Ed wasn't liking where this was going.
"Well, when that happened a part of your soul was lost and you should've died, but that part was regained fast enough when you entered Pride. So can you guess as to what you are? Part human and" Truth held out the and part and looked expectantly at Ed. It was having a lot of fun with this.
"Part homunculi" Ed pretty much spat out the word. "wait, then why didn't I heal or use pride's shadow afterwards?"
"Simple, you didn't absorb as much as needed to be able to use those abilities, you're more like wrath, where your human abilities are increased a little bit. However, in this new world those abilities will begin to manifest a lot more due to a new element that exists called Ethernano. You'll learn more about it when you get there. But your homunculus part will grow and you'll gain their powers." Truth explained.
"So I'll eventually have Pride and all of the voices of the damned in my head?" Ed started to worry wondering what this was going to be like.
"Or you can exchange Pride out for a different homunculi. It has to be one of the more recent ones though. So any of them besides Lust or Gluttony. If you want the one that'll give you less of a headache, Wrath is here also. Depending on which of the remaining five other homunculi you pick is the type of magic you'll be using." Truth told him.
"Magic" Ed sputtered at that word and used a face he used when seeing milk.
"Of course" Truth said grinning. "Each homunculi consciousness came from the other world and dominated the body they were in. Hence the inhuman abilities that they were able to display. They were each involved with a special ritual and their bodies are still around on the other side as well as their conscious. Father would have been stuck with a bunch of useless husks otherwise since very few can actually dominate the body over all those souls."
Edward couldn't believe what he was hearing. None of it made sense to him. But he did know that he had to choose a certain homunculi and there abilities. He thought about Greed, but if it was true that their bodies and consciousness were still around, Greed could help him out. Edward probably could have gone with any of the others but decided to go with Wrath. The eye is really useful plus he doesn't have to deal with the extra voices as much. It'll just be him and that one voice. Ed made his decision. Just a few more questions to ask.
"What's the price to change my homunculus? What are his "magic" abilities? and what happens to the Wrath on the other side?" Ed asked curiously
"First nothing." Seeing the disbelief, Truth continued, "It's like a test trial, you can try something for a few days and then return it or keep it. Once you've had you're homunculus part for a few days it's permanent, but you haven't so you can change it out for a different homunculus."
"Then if I don't like Wrath's ability, I can come back and change it?" Ed asked. He wasn't planning on it, but was curious to know if that was an option.
"No, the other homunculi souls will return once you've crossed the door into the next world" Truth said
"Ok, so what exactly does the ultimate eye do?" Ed asked Truth.
"It lets you see everything around you at once and shows you their next movement, spell, attack, action, and the best counter for it. It also does other things but I'll let you figure out those abilities in the future" Truth informed Ed. Knowing that he wouldn't get anything more out of Truth, Ed asked another question.
"And what about the Wrath on the other side?" Ed asked Truth. He wasn't sure he really cared at all what happens to Wrath, but the thought of him dying didn't sit well with Ed.
"He'll lose his ability to do magic." Truth replied and Ed breathed a sigh of relief.
"And I take it there's no other way?" Truth knew that Ed was talking about this deal and having someone else go and defeat Father, which was completely true and doable, but Truth, being a milk colored piece of shit, decided that Ed was talking about the deal conditions and so answered truthfully, "there is no other way."
"Figures, can I at least say good bye to Al?"
"Sure, for a price"
"The homunculus in me?"
"That'll kill you"
"Damn" and with that the long stringy arms came out of the gate and took Ed into a whole new world.
Authors Note
So this fanfic is me experimenting with writing and so a lot of things aren't going to be very good. Please review if you notice something wrong. I'm open to ideas about how some of the fights or dialog can go as long as the end result is the same.
A lot of this is made up and is a huge hodgepodge of fanfic ideas I've come up with that I wanted to write but don't have enough ideas on how to write since I don't have enough material for all the stories or time to write them and so I combined them and this is the result. Hope you guys enjoy!
