Disclosure: Own nothing except my original ideas. We have Don Bellisario et al to thank most everything.
A/N: Unbetaed so all mistakes are my own. Constructive feedback is always welcome. If you don't know the definition of constructive, please pass. This story (and hope more forthcoming) are coming out of a desire of discipline to write a Gabby moment out of every episode. My hope is the exercise will get the muse going and produce a universe of sorts. i can only hope to aspire to my favoritest of favorite fanfic authors who have gone before.

"Kate told me you said you gave her that 'second b is for bastard' bullshit today," Abby systematically finished shutting down her machines and then went into her office and shrugged out of her lab coat. They were out in the parking garage before Gibbs responded.

"It was an old Corps joke," Gibbs said as they made their way to Abby's car. "Seemed true at the time."

Abby scoffed at him. "I never see you like that."

That's because you know me... differently. "Yeah well..." Gibbs didn't know what to say, what would or wouldn't disclose what he did or didn't want to say. He didn't know much of anything, at the end of the day. This day.

"Why is that, Gibbs?" Abby asked. She opened up her door, threw her bag over to the passenger side and leaned back against the closed driver's door again. "Why is what, Abbs?"

"Why do I know you... differently... than the rest of the team?"

Trouble. I'm in trouble. It was pure Abby. She lowered his defences, knew him without pushing, analyzing or probing. She made him want to be with her. She accepted him as he was - if he wanted quiet or he wanted banter. He could only hope he gave her something too, even though he couldn't imagine what.

"I don't know, Abby."

"You DO and you're just not saying..."

Gibbs shook his head. There was rarely, if ever, fooling her. And only a few times fooling her was really important. Like right now. "I don't know, and that's the truth." He leaned over and kissed her cheek. "I'll see you in the morning. Still have to catch our bad guy."

"After this case, Gibbs... after this case we're going to sit down and talk."

"After we catch our bad guy, we'll see."

He opened her door again and watched as she gracefully sat down. "Night, Abbs."

"Night, Gibbs," she smiled a smile he knows lots of others see yet he saw a hint of the sparkle he very well knew was reserved for him.

And with that the door closed, she backed up and drove off.

Yep, trouble.
