I don't own Zelda.
Linko tossed and turned, a vivid nightmare making her shiver and groan in her sleep. In her dream, she was standing in front of a huge white castle. She couldn't tell if it was day or night, and a chilling aura surrounded the place.
A drawbridge slowly lowered to reveal a white horse with two riders fleeing the castle at full speed. A man was holding tight to a little boy about Linko's age and was concentrating on the path in front of him. The boy stared back at Linko, his eyes wide in fear as they sped past.
Linko turned back toward the castle. She stumbled back in surprise when she saw a powerful looking Gerudo woman in black armor on a huge ebony warhorse. The woman turned toward her, grinned evilly, and raised a hand threateningly.
Just as the woman was about to strike, Linko heard a voice yelling at her.
"Hey! Get up!" something hit her in the nose, but it didn't hurt much. "The Great Deku Tree wants to see you!"
Linko sat up and stretched. The voice that had spoken belonged to a little blue fairy who hovered centimeters from her face with his arms crossed. He had kicked Linko in the nose, and looked quite irritated. "What did you say?" Linko asked groggily. "Whose fairy are you?"
The fairy rolled his eyes. "The name's Navin. I've been assigned to you by the Great Deku Tree, and she wants to see you."
"The Great Deku Tree?" Linko's eyes widened like a child's who had been caught in wrongdoing. After all, the Great Deku Tree was the mother of all the Kokiri in the forest. "But what in Farore's name does she want with me?"
Navin ran his fingers through his short, blue hair. "I dunno, some saving Hyrule thing, something about a curse, whatever, she wants to see you."
"Saving Hyrule? You mean she wants me to save the world?" Linko stared at Navin in disbelief. "But why me?"
"I don't know! Come on, let's go." The blue fairy landed on Linko's shoulder.
"Wait just a moment, I need to get ready. If I'm going to save the world, I'm going to need some more appropriate clothing." Linko quickly changed into a sturdy green tunic and put her golden hair into a low ponytail. She put on her brown leather boots and a forest green hat that was supposed to be a boy's hat, but she wore it anyway. "Now, I'm ready."
"It's about time!" Navin flew into her hat. "It's nice and soft in here."
Linko took one last look around her tree home and headed out the door. She saw her best friend, Soren, jog up to the bottom of the ladder that she used to get up and down from her house at the top of the tree. Soren looked up at her and grinned widely.
"Hey, nice outfit, Linko." the green haired boy called in Linko's direction. "But isn't that a boy's hat?"
Linko waited until she had descended the ladder to answer. "Yes, it's actually one of yours, you left it at my house."
"It's really comfy." Navin's voice floated out of the hat.
Soren's eyes widened. "Do you have a fairy now?" he asked. In response, Navin flew out of Linko's hat at top speed. He almost ran into Soren's fairy.
"Yep!" He said in a proud voice. "I'm Linko's fairy!"
Linko smiled at her longtime friend. "The Great Deku Tree wants to see me, and it's something about saving the world, according to Navin."
"Well, get going! The Great Deku Tree is waiting!" Soren encouraged.
