Truths
Chase helped Cameron and her dress into the passenger side of his new Prius before climbing into the driver's seat. With a huge grin, he put the car in gear and pulled away from the waving crowd. Once they were on the highway, Cameron looked away from the rear-view mirrors. She gazed at Chase lovingly, noticing that he had that special glow about him. This time, though, it was different… brighter. Feeling her eyes on him, Chase glanced over to meet her gaze for a brief moment. "I don't think I could be happier right now," he declared as he forced his eyes back to the road.
Cameron's small smile grew a little. "I know I couldn't, but I think you could."
"And how is that?" Cameron loved it when he cocked his head like that.
"By hearing what I'm about to tell you." Chase had trouble ignoring the tinge of seduction in her voice.
"Okay… what are you about to tell me?" He glanced at his new wife again. Her smile was dazzling.
"I didn't destroy the sperm." She looked out the window, still smiling.
Chase's grin disappeared. Concern and disappointment furrowed his brow. "No offense, but how is that supposed to make me happier?"
"Because I didn't keep it, either." Chase didn't get it. "I donated it to the sperm bank."
Now Chase got it. His face lit up. "Are… you okay with that?"
Cameron's smile grew more. "If I wasn't, I wouldn't've done it."
Chase met her eyes again, long enough to see the peace in them. "That's… great!" His grin returned.
"I finally feel like… I can move on now."
Chase's smile became more thoughtful, and he took Cameron's left hand in his right. "So where does that put your heart?"
"The same place it's been since the day I met you, minus the sorrow and pain." Chase glanced at her again, a question in his eyes. She gave his hand a squeeze. "It's been yours since Day One; I was just too afraid to admit it before."
"What was it that gave you the courage to finally admit it?"
Cameron blushed. "I was afraid you'd give up and leave me." At this, Chase laughed. Cameron looked back to him. "What?"
"I could never leave you," he admitted, smiling, "not even if I tried."
