A.N. so I decided to write some Harry Potter fan fiction while I'm inspired. Hopefully It turns out somewhat good.

Disclaimer: You know exactly who my own creation is and who belongs to J.K. Rowling.

I never met my dad. I tell people that he died in a car accident when I was little. Do you want to know the truth? My father is an inmate in Azkaban. A life sentence for the murder of the Wrights, a muggle family. While I don't condone his behavior, it did create the person I am today, and for that I'm thankful.

My mother divorced my father before the murder. He was the classic, handsome, 7th year going for the naïve, little 5th year, and he won her heart. They married right after she graduated from Hogwarts. He was a Slytherin and she was a Ravenclaw. Their marriage lasted for a good 5 years, just long enough to have a child— me. When I turned two, my father was convicted of murder and my mother divorced him. She then moved us far away from the wizarding community that she grew up in. We settled in Salem, Massachusetts where I attended school at the Salem School until I was 11. The day I turned 11 was when my world turned upside down.

"Tess, dear, please come here for a minute."

I remember setting down my Nancy Drew novel reluctantly and jogging down the hallway. I skipped down the steps, taking them two at a time, and dramatically jumped to the bottom. Turning the corner, I saw my mother with an owl perched next to her. Obviously, one of her relatives from England was trying to contact her. This didn't happen often, just because Mom was still embarrassed about her "failure to find a good man to settle down with".

"Please sit down. I have something that I need to talk to you about. Do you remember me telling you about Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?"

"Yea, that's where you went to school, right?"

"Yes, it is. And guess what? Your letter came today! You get to go to the same school as me!"

"But I have a school already. And I have friends there. You can owl back Hogwarts and tell them 'thank you , but no thank you' for me."

"Tess, you're going to Hogwarts. It is the best magical institution in the world. It's an honor to attend school there. I'm sorry , but you'll just have to make new friends and adjust."

I then told my mother that I hated her and wished she was in Azkaban with my father. But I was just a dramatic 11 year old and I didn't realize how I would be eating my words years later. That all comes later in my story.

Hogwarts was not as bad as I imagined it. I met my best friend Ginny Weasley on the train to school and we've been inseparable since. I do pretty well in all of my classes and I have a good amount of friends and little to no enemies. Overall, life was pretty good.
