First Steps into Death
Yume
His steps were erratic as he stumbled over rocks and skulls. His dirtied hands were coated in earth and blood – both his own and others'. Deep green eyes stared intently at the darkness always before him. He was searching for something he had cast off once before.
Balder, he needed to get him back. Only Balder ever gave him a warm smile. Only Balder forgave his malicious pranks.
He had been jealous.
That was why… That was why he had sent him to this horrid domain his daughter controlled. But – but this was no place for such kindness. He stumbled and fell, but a warm hand caught his shoulder and balanced him.
Loki looked to see what dead soul held such kindness. What he saw almost made him cry – it could have, because with the light haired man smilingly forgivingly at him his conscience returned. Why did it hurt?
He slid to his knees, looking up at Balder almost mournfully. "I'm sorry… I'm sorry, Balder. Please, please… I'm sorry."
Balder gave a soft chuckle, kneeling next to the other to brush Loki's hair from his face. "Loki… You needn't apologize. I'll always forgive you."
He pulled Loki into a tight hug. Loki rested his head on Balder's shoulder, loosely wrapping his arms about the other. "…Come back with me, Balder." Loki's words were rasped, and he tightened his grip noticeably about the other god.
The shimmering light of the other god seemed to fade somewhat, and he gave a sad chuckle, "No, Loki, I have to leave. Even in Hel's domain, my time is limited. You'll have to forgive me for leaving you yet again."
Loki looked at him in shock. He couldn't lose that smile again. Green eyes noticed the dissipating light of the other. The warm body he clung to was starting to lose the heat, hands falling through the other. Balder gave him one more loving, gentle smile – his last – before the image faded, and the old skull fell into Loki's outstretched hands. The younger god brought it to his person, and for the first time, he cried.
Well, in Norse mythology it was only after Balder died that Loki became cruel and "evil" as some say. So, I always thought Balder to be Loki's conscience in a way. If you want to see this as yaoi, fine, but that wasn't the intention. This is just a turning point in Loki's personality. Read and review please. I love the opinions others have on any part of it.
