.-.oOo.-..

The cool night sky hung heavily overhead like a rich velvet blanket studded with millions of shimmering diamonds. Just below, a band of crickets rubbed their spindly legs together, singing a monotonous song for the world to hear.

A small form lay upon the damp grass, huddled beneath a thin blanket. Refuge had been sought out in the form of a dilapidated dog house, worn and falling apart.

It was a boy.

Shivering, the child screwed his blue eyes shut in an effort to hold back the tears that had for so long been threatening to fall. The attempt was fruitless, however, and the crystalline drops spilled from the edges of his reddened eyes, leaving behind a freezing trail of wetness upon his creamy cheeks.

Somewhere across the yard a twig snapped and he felt fear's icy hand grip him from the inside and refuse to release him from its terrifying grasp.

Despite that, only one thought crossed the boy's mind -

Tomorrow I'll do better. Tomorrow I'll make Daddy happy again.
