It doesn't matter what you call it…destiny…fate, when after 1000 years of waiting you find her once again, when you can hold her in your arms and tell her how much you love her, everything else seems insignificant.

It doesn't matter that her name is now Julie and she has no recognition of who you are or who she was, or that she's now the owner of a small flower shop and her head is barely floating above water. She still babbles when she's embarrassed and picks her nails when she's nervous, and her smile still warms you deep inside.

It doesn't matter that you were reunited once again as she rushed down the street while struggling with a scarf around her neck, a hot coffee in her hand which to this day continues to be a secret stain on the back of Merlin's borrowed hoodie.

To her you are a charming stranger; a man with 'one of those faces' and an apparent loneliness in his eyes, his smile, someone she deems way out of her league and ever fortunate for meeting. She likes the way you listen as she talks and watch her as she reads, huddled up on the sofa with the stem of her glasses hanging from the corner of her mouth, the light from the window igniting her caramel complexion.

You want to spend every extra minute you've been gifted in her presence, for this new world is less demanding and you now have the time to devote to her completely, getting to know her again, letting her get to know you. As you lay with her in the night in this strange place, her head pillowed on your shoulder, your arm around her waist even though her silky pyjamas like to make it difficult, you remember your promise to always be there, and how you failed her once before. You hope that this time destiny will be kinder and that you will be able to be there for her always, have kids and grow old with her, and that you will never have to abandon her again.

But if some unfortunate fate befalls you, you vow to find her again, as you did in this life time, and as you will do in every other lifetime to come. For she is your lover, your soul mate, your destiny, and was and always with be, your Guinevere.
