When It Rains
[86. in the rain]
And when it rains,
Will you always find an escape?
Just running away,
From all of the ones who love you,
From everything.
His country was in ruins - the place he was supposed to protect, guard with his life. The houses were all burned down, their ashes carried on the wind, the smell of smoldering wood left a bitter taste in his mouth. Blood coated the ground where battle after battle was fought, the only evidence left behind aside from broken swords and the dead's remains.
If home was truly where the heart lay, where was his heart now? There was barely anything left of the place he called 'home'. The gardens he would escape to when he was upset or needed time alone were gone, their withered leaves shriveled on the soil, trampled and destroyed.
But it wasn't the remains of his kingdom that upset him. It saddened him, surely, but not as much as one little fact.
Where is my family now? The question plagued him day and night as he went over the crumbling walls of his home. He touched the broken stones, watched them crumble into nothing in his hands. Someone had come and torn his walls down, ripped the smooth stone from the mortar until the interior was exposed for all to see. Vulnerable. And he walked among the ruins, hoping to find something.
His mother and father were dead – he knew that, had witnessed it with his own ears and eyes - but he never... In the whirlwind of confusion that came with the invasion, the panic that spread through the castle like a wildfire, there was no time to locate his mother... He was too late...
He never had the chance to tell them good bye.
The sky darkened and rain began to fall, removing the filth from the ruins, darkening the mood. Marth's legs gave out and he fell into the slickening mud – uncaring about his knees getting dirty or the fact that he was getting wet.
He never had the chance to say goodbye.

Author's notes: Yeah, another angsty one shot. As you can see, the inspiration was from "When It Rains" by Paramore (which I don't own). I thought it was pretty interesting, to say the least, and a little experiment.
As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated!
