Elena paced around the room. "Elena, breathe." Damon coached. "I just. It's weird to be human again. I can't hear the birds chirping three houses away…I can't hear people's hearts beating." she said. "I'm just a little… underwhelmed…I guess." she said. "Or you're avoiding dealing with the sire bond being broken and you don't want to hurt my feelings, or Stefan's." he said. Elena sighed and walked over to him. "The sirebond didn't erase anything." she assured him. "I still feel everything I felt for you, Damon. But…I feel everything I felt for Stefan too." she said. "I'm just confused all over again. I never thought I'd say that being a vampire was easier." she said, covering her face with her hands. Damon smirked and pulled her into his arms. "It's okay." he soothed. "You don't have to choose today, Elena. Just…figure out what you want, okay?" he smiled sadly. Elena nodded and buried her head in her chest.
An hour later, Elena had decided to go see Stefan. Since their return from the island, he'd been staying away from the boarding house. Elena drove to the Mikaelson house and walked up to the front door, knocking. Rebekah answered the door. "Can I help you?" she asked. "Is Stefan here?" she asked. Rebekah sighed and called for him, walking away as Stefan approached. "What do you want, Elena?" he asked. Elena raised an eyebrow in confusion. She, Stefan, and Rebekah had teamed up on the island. She and Rebekah had become friendly and she and Stefan had vowed to be friends in all of this…what the hell had happened "I…I wanted to talk to you. Since I became—" "Let me guess. The sire bond is broken and you're in love with me?" he said cruelly. "Well…actually—""Here's a newsflash, Elena. ' ." he said. "Be in love with me, be in love with my brother….marry him…whatever. I don't care. I'm done with you." he said, walking away. Elena stood in the doorway stunned. Rebekah walked back in. Elena's eyes shot up. "What did you do to him?!" she demanded, tears in her eyes. Rebekah cocked her head to the side, a victorious smirk crossing her lips. "I fixed him." she spoke, slamming the door in Elena's face.
