Dark Forebodings

Author's Notes: That's place somewhere after the continuation of the House of M, Son of M series. I've always been fond of Quicksilver, I thought he is an honest soul trying to do what's right, who unfortunately is one of the favorite targets of the Marvel Universe when it comes to being down on their luck.

Unfaithful wife, Maniacal father, dead mother, teammates who don't really care half the time, gotten brainwash by all and sundry, hunted because of whose kid he is, sister who he tried desperately to protect but…well you know. I finally blew the top after spying the Silent War cover where Pietro was hugging Crystals leg like some damsel in distress. Man, why does he always get the humiliating parts?

Anway, I picked up the X-Factor of 'Civil War' and then this came out in a rush

Ororo pushed the wheelchair forward as she stepped into the broken down apartment. A frown graced her features as she took in the broken glass and cobwebs about the place. The mutant they were meeting was unpredictable at best, dangerous at worst and she was nervous. Something warm covered a hand that held the wheelchair and she took comfort in her mentor's action.

Professor Xavier smiled as he felt his student relaxed under his touch. He needed her confidence if he expected her to obey his next instructions. "Ororo, please wait for me outside."

"But Professor…" Ororo began to protest.

"No buts Ororo, we agreed on this. It's why I chose to take you and not Scott."

"At least, let me remain here till HE arrives."

Xavier gave a shake of his head, "he is already here."

As if in answer, a form detached itself from the shadows revealing the blue and silver form of Quicksilver.

Ororo tensed but a mental order from the professor and she slowly backed out of the room closing the door behind her.

Alone, the two men studied each other in the tense silence that followed. It was the younger, ever impatient, who spoke first.

"Hello Professor, it's been awhile"

"Hello Pietro, yes, yes it's been. How are you?"

"I live."

"You appear to have gain some insight to your full powers."

"Spare me the small talk Professor and tell me what you want. Through, I suspect I could guess."

"As you wish- Pietro, I need you to tell me where the straight path leads to."

"I should hate you; After all your X-men were one of the parties who tried to kill Wanda…"

"Pietro"

"However, I did not forget that you did try to help her. Don't look so surprise Professor, I might be somewhat unbalanced these days but that doesn't mean I forgotten it all."

"So?"

"Yes, yes I'll help."

Quicksilver sat down on the edge of a window sill and curling one leg up, made himself comfortable. Unable to resist one last barb, he spoke. "To be honest, I'm surprise you chose me over someone like.. Layla?"

"She has her own agenda, besides..."

Quicksilver gave a slow swing of his head, as he activated a portion of his powers Pietro's voice took on a strange dreamlike tone. "There are paths outside the Garden. The girl thinks she sees the future in she only sees what she is expected to see. Wanda is who she is getting that power after all. She can only see up to what my sister wants her to see whether consciously or unconsciously. No more, no less."

Xavier gave a grave nod, "something you as her twin is immune too."

"Yes"

Again the room fell into silent and both became lost in their own thoughts, Pietro with his eyes to the straightest path of the future to come, Xavier to the thoughts of sacrifices now and yet to come in order to realize his dream.
