It was after two in the morning, and Roy still didn't feel tired at all.
It had been over eight hours since Jason had left, leaving the red-head all alone in their apartment. He said he had to go out on 'family business' and left it that. Roy didn't know when he was coming back, or even if he was coming back at all.
So the archer just ordered delivery from the Chinese restaurant a couple blocks over, and ate at the table in silence. It felt...off. Normally he would talk and talk and talk, but Jason wasn't there to listen to him ramble about whatever strange topic he had been thinking of that day. Be it how ugly spiders were ('You're scared of spiders?' 'I'm not scared of them, I just think they're ugly.'), how our eyes see in 3-D rather then 2-D ('If everything looked flat to us, would it feel flat too?'), how people never take just a couple hundred dollars when they rob a bank ('Why does no one ever just steal ten bucks for groceries? Why do people always take everything?'), anything, and Jason hung on to every word, as if whatever Roy was babbling about was the most important thing in the world.
After he ate, Roy decided he would try to fill the silence of the night with TV. He collapsed on the couch and started flipping through channels. He was about to complain that there was nothing on, but of course, there was no one there to complain too. Roy shut the TV off and sighed. It had only been a couple hours and already Roy missed Jason. He shivered. Winter was coming soon. Normally Roy would slip into Jason's leather jacket to keep himself warm... or slip into his Jaybird's arms. Either worked, really. Unfortunately he had neither of those, so he just made himself a cup of decaf coffee and closed all the windows. Damn, he really missed Jason.
Roy finished his coffee and put the mug in the sink. He yawned and decided he would turn in for the night, since he didn't really have anything else to do. So he entered the bedroom, took off his shirt and his socks, then climbed in the bed. He shivered. Then he realized he wasn't even under the covers, since he usually had Jason to keep him warm. He crawled under the covers and muttered angrily to himself.
'Damn it, Jason. When are you getting your ass back home?'
He lay like that for hours; waiting for his lover to come home. He covered himself in blankets, trying to make up for the lack of a warm body next to him. He watched the glowing numbers of the digital clock next to the bed, each minute seeming slower then the one before.
2:08.
2:09.
2:10.
2:11.
Then he heard the door to the bedroom behind him open. Light poured in the room, illuminating the wall Roy was facing. The archer didn't move. The bed sank as a weight was added to the other side. The covers lifted, allowing a body to climb underneath, while Roy held his eyes shut. An arm wrapped around Roy's torso as the figure pressed himself against the red-head. Jason planted a kiss on Roy's cheek, then his temple, then his lips. He snuggled his face into Roy's shoulder, and whispered softly into his ear.
'I love you, Roy.'
Roy sank in against his lover's body, as he drifted off to sleep.
