Heyyy! This takes place after Idol, and Kris had divorced Katy, but not before they had a daughter named Cassidy that Kris had gotten custody of. And, as further information, she is fifteen, and even though she knows that Katy is her mother, she thinks of Adam and Kris as her parents. (And Allison, Anoop, and Danny as her aunt and uncles) This is a very sad fic, so expect to cry! I did and still am whenever I try to write it.
What Would I Do Without You?
I knew I shouldn't have been drinking. Allison had told me to stop after Kris had gotten drunk. Someone needed to drive him home, she said. No more shots for me. But I couldn't stop. I had drink after drink, and Kris offered to drive. Too drunk to object, I gladly agreed. Then, all I can remember is a flash.
I woke up at the house that Kris and I shared, Allison sitting beside me crying. I sat up.
'What's wrong honey?" I asked sweetly, completely unaware of the situation. She looked up at me, her brown eyes swimming in tears.
"Adam, do you remember what happened last night?" My eyes connected with hers.
"Um, we went to a club right? Gosh, how did I get home? I got so drunk!" I realized. A fire burned in her eyes for a moment.
"That would be the issue Adam. I asked you not to get drunk, so that you could drive yourself and Kris home. But you did, and Kris, equally drunk, ended up driving." Allison told me. My face froze, and she softened. "But it wasn't your fault Adam, don't you dare blame yourself." I looked at her.
"Allie, what happened?" I asked sternly. She choked back a sob.
"Adam, Kris died last night. You guys crashed into a truck, but luckily you survived. I..." She sobbed. "I couldn't lose both of you." I held her as she bawled, attempting to control myself for Allie's sake. A thought popped into my head.
"Allie. Where's Cassidy!?" I half asked, half shouted. "Does she know?!" Allison looked at me, teary eyed and red faced, and nodded.
"She knows, she's in her room sleeping. She cried herself to sleep. Adam I know you're upset, but please try to be strong for her. She needs her dad right now."
"Could you give me a minute alone Allie? I just need to think, and then I'll go talk to Cassidy." I asked. She got up, gave me one more hug, and left. I looked around the room that I used to share with Kris.
There was a large drawing on the wall that Cassidy had drawn in 6th grade. It was a bunch of colors blending together, a true work of art. She always had a knack for drawing, and singing. But, of course she got that from Kris.
I turned and saw the pictures next to the bed, on the nightstand. There was one of Kris and me kissing for the first time. Allison took that with her phone.
There was one of the three of us at the beach; Kris and I linking hands and Cassidy standing on our arms, laughing and smiling. She was beautiful, just like her father. She had a mix between Katy and Kris' hair, a dirty blond color. And big, curious brown eyes. She took after me in style; black hail polish, eyeliner, and clothes.
I looked down at the last picture, one of Kris and Cassidy, and broke down.
