Hanji.
Hanji, Four Eyes, Shitty Glasses. How he missed her taunts with regards to his size or leadership. While he was well aware that in the Scouting Legion, men were highly likely to die, especially during an expedition, it never failed to come as a shock when one of your own is severely injured or even killed. Particularly Hanji, whom he had worked alongside for almost a decade now- It was her who helped him adjust into the fine leader, from his role in the criminal underworld.
He was well aware as well that he as 'Humanities' Great Soldier' should have been able to better protect her. But he had not. He had failed. Failure was something that the corporal was not accustomed to, particularly not failure with such grave consequences.
Yet here he sat alone, coffee in one hand, cigarette in the other; for a man with such a fixation on cleanliness, it was astounding that he'd choose to take up such a habit. Yet he had, years ago, a further vice to help himself cope with the stresses and strains that he faced. He replayed the events in his head, he now could imagine so many strategies at which he would have been able to save Hanji, but he was no doubt too late. For now, she remained in the medical facility; he'd been kept from seeing her. He didn't know if she were dead or alive- All he knew. It was his fault.
Next to him, she was there on the cold cleaned bed. The young woman was laying down on the medical bed, it have been a few days now she hadn't woke up nor made any small movement when the doctor check her reaction for pain. Nothing at all. Every hour they had to check on her, to see that her normal vital signs are the same. They told him that right now, the young brown haired woman is in coma, they wasn't able to tell him when or if she'll wake up again.
There was no way she wouldn't get hurt that much, that abnormal titan wasn't expected in first place. It wasn't hers reckless fault, nor Rivaille, it's no one's fault. 'Huh..? I can't move..I can't end my life this way..' She thought to herself, trying to make herself move a bit. Hanji still wanted to do researches about the titans, to keep do experiments even when it's goes wrong..More than that, the young woman still had to be around and teased Rivaille whenever she can. She wanted to tell him it wasn't his fault.
'Hei..chou..' She mumbles quietly, so quiet it was hard to hear, but clearly enough to see her lips moves.
