This was written for three reasons. One: For my sister (PartyMashedPotatoes), who is not only a lovely writer, but an amazing person! I love you, Angel! ^_^ 3 Two: I wanted to experiment with no-dialogue fics, since I've had an interest in them lately. And three: It's way past time for me to write an X-Men Evolution fanfiction.
So, I'll go ahead and warn you, this is my first story based on the show, and I know it's short, but I worked really hard on it. I hope y'all enjoy! ^_^
His mother was gone. There would be no second chances for her as a mom and none for him as a son. Maybe it wouldn't hurt so bad if he'd never been so close to actually knowing who his mother was - deep down, on the inside.
A tear escaped his golden eyes and rolled down his furry cheek. Even though losing his mother was torture, he was even more upset about something else.
Rogue. She had made a decision to do something... so terrible. Mystique had been lost to anger, but now Kurt feared his only sister would be as well.
His mother was already gone. There was nothing he could do for her now. But Rogue was still with him and he knew he needed to be there for her before her anger took over.
She had so much life in her, so much potential, and yet she didn't even realize it. He didn't want her anger to end up destroying her life too. He'd tried to talk to her about it, but she wouldn't listen. It was something he wished he could help, something he knew he couldn't. It had to be up to Rogue to make such a change in her life, even though Kurt desperately wanted to help.
He stared up at the darkened sky as the moon cast shadows down on the ground next to him. He rested his head on his hand as the breeze around him created a peaceful atmosphere. Would his sister resent him for not being able to help her, just as he was unable to help their mother? Or would she be grateful if he stayed out of her business?
He sighed quietly, wondering if Mystique had wanted someone to reach out and save her.
Suddenly, a figure appeared at his side and he hurriedly wiped his tears away. It was Rogue. She took a seat on the ground next to him, staring at him with an unreadable expression on her face. He looked away, unsure of what to do or say.
The two sat in silence for a few moments. Kurt wanted to say something - anything - but had no clue of what should be said. Finally, he turned back to his sister and opened his mouth to speak.
Before he could react, Rogue had gently pulled him into an uncharacteristic hug. He was surprised, to say the least, but finally relaxed and allowed his sister to comfort him. Maybe this was her way of apologizing, or a simple way of starting anew.
As the two sat still together, in the imperturbable silence of the night, Kurt couldn't stop the smile that played at his lips. Maybe Rogue wouldn't end up like Mystique. Maybe she would be all right, after all.
He closed his eyes. Thank you, sister.
Thanks for reading! :) Angel, thank you for being an amazing sister and an awesome best friend! I love you and I hope you enjoyed this! ;) 3
