You hold her body close, and it flops in your arms. Her eyes have lost the spark that had so enchanted you. Instead of holding the promise of smiles, of happiness and… even… love, they are pools without a ripple, locked doors for which you don't have the key.
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this…
She is beautiful… Gently brushing her dark hair out of her face, stroking her cheek with a shaking thumb.
You close her eyes, and she looks so tranquil, even though her lips - red as her blood - are fixed in an expression that you can't even begin to describe.
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace forevermore
As you look at her face, blank and peaceful, turmoil rages inside you, almost as powerful as the honey that had seared through your body like fire, that had filled you with so much uncontrollable power… How did that lead to this moment? The one you never wanted to face.
But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
You turn your head to the sky, and scream, the bitter sound filling the silence that had taken over the air. The few featherbeasts that had been perching in nearby trees flew away in fright. Tears, the colour of mustard, fall to the ground.
Until we meet
You fly away, the orange crests of flames burning tattoos onto your eyes, the pain in your chest almost enough to bring you back down to the earth.
You would never laugh together again.
You would never touch again.
