Notes: Kerning, Ellinia, Perion, Heneseys, and Nautilus are the city leaders not the cities.
To avoid confusion the cities are: City of trees=Ellinia, City of mountains=Perion, City of light=Heneseys,
City of water=Nautilus and City of Darkness=Kerning
Another thing, I haven't played much maplestory so the abilities will be ones you get early on or ones I
made up.
Also this is completely original; none of the plot was taken from anything else,
Finally I would like to thank Absol master I used his story 'of the dragon, of the stars' as a reference to get myself started with the finer details.

Chapter one
A war without reason
Kerning: thoughts
As Kerning looked out at The City of Darkness he wondered, just what had caused this war to break out, "There was no reason for it" he thought "it just started out of nothing, nothing at all had caused it, in fact" Kerning thought growing more confused every second "we had celebrated the 500th anniversary of Victoria island, it was so happy and then….."
As Kerning thought about it he began to drift off into a sea of his memories.
"Kerning where are you?!" came the cry of the young man with blonde hair running inside Kerning home in search of his leader,
"I am here" Kerning told the man "what is it you need of me?"
"It's the city of Light!" the young man answered gasping for breath, "they're going crazy, attacking everything they see, even Heneseys!"
"Their leader? Who would try attacking her?" Kerning thought before asking "what is her condition?"
"She is unaffected by the… disease" The young man said hesitating before muttering the last word.
"Sir!" Another man, this one with brown hair, came running to Kerning "The city of mountains is going crazy!!!"
"Them to? What is happening, and why now?" Kerning thought confused,
Suddenly both men pulled out their daggers and attacked Kerning, with lightning fast speed Kerning dodged between both of them and rendered them unconscious.
"What just happened? They just attacked me randomly" Kerning thought slightly shocked "is this what happened to the other cities?"
As Kerning thought, he heard a crash and saw one of his students, a bandit of whom he had recently graduated.
He saw a dagger clutched in his hand, and Kerning sighed "it appears that the city leaders are the only people on Victoria Island sane"
He quickly knocked him down and used his ninja mind reading technique on the bandit,
When he entered he found an empty room with words like, Kill, Death or Die scrawled in blood, this was to horrifying for Kerning to stand and he quickly cancelled the technique.
it was a sad thing to know that there were only five people left sane on the island, I was painful for him to think that everyone he ever loved were insane, that every person he ever taught would be using these skills to kill, Kerning knew he would stop this, he didn't know how or even what caused it but he would find out and he would stop it.
He looked at the unconscious men, he knew they were practically monsters anyway and he should just kill them, but as he looked at his dagger and at his ex students he couldn't do it,
And so instead he left them and moved to the highest point of the city of darkness to consider his plan.
As Kerning stood there on top of his city he decided to go to the city of light, the place where it all began, where the insanity first arrived and where the most likely person to start a war was.
