No Time Together

Written by WickedSong

Disclaimer : Sadly, even though I've seen the movie twice (went again yesterday, yay!) and bought the soundtrack last week (double yays!) I don't own Tangled and I probably never will... :'(

Note : This oneshot was significantly inspired by the song 'The Man I Loved' by Rebecca Lavelle so if you want to listen to it, it might enhance it slightly (...I hope, :))

Rapunzel cradled the still, cold and lifeless body of Eugene, as if just sitting, crying out his name would be enough to revive him. Even though her mind told her he was gone and there was no way he was coming back, her heart fought this and told her to stay where she was.

She looked down at his face, remembering every memory with him. This was unfair, this was cruel, this wasn't supposed to happen was all that she could think. They had only had a matter of days together. That would never be enough to justify what she felt for him, and she would have to try and hold that time, those few precious days in everything she did, as if that would be enough to carry her through the rest of her life, a life without him in it.

A voice in her head began to taunt her saying she would never see him again, that his eyes would never open again and that he had gone away. She closed her eyes to block this out, thinking that just focusing on him would rid the voice from her head. She thought of only of how Eugene smiled to her. She became so wrapped in that vision of his smile, in her head that the minute she opened her eyes, she wished she hadn't. Opening her eyes only made her face the horrible truth, something in front of her and so real, she didn't want it to be a reality.

"Why?" asked Rapunzel quietly to herself, desperation in her voice, as she bent her head down over Eugene's own. "Why here? Why now?"

It was in this despair and quiet yet desperate need for him to live again that she sang her incantation, despite knowing that because of her hair being cut it would not work. She didn't let herself think of that however as she allowed a tear to fall from her eye, a tear that, when it landed on Eugene's face made the room become bright with swirling lights. The display was in some aspects, Rapunzel thought, as she watched in awe, shock and surprise similar to the way, but also different from how her previously-blonde healing hair worked.

What did this mean, what was happening?

She wasn't sure when the lights faded what had happened. Her answer to this question quickly came from a person whose voice she thought she'd never hear again, and as she looked down and heard him say her name, however quiet it was and she said his back, thinking that she was truly going insane if he, who had been dead, was speaking again, her heart soared as she realised it was no dream. Eugene was breathing, his eyes were open, he was alive.

"Did I ever tell you I've got a thing for brunettes?"

I'm sorry for the sadness, again :( I made it kind of happy at the end though. :)

I know it just kind of ends but I was aware that if I just ended on before the tear healing him, I would make myself depressed so I took it on a little farther than I had originally intended when writing it.

I promise, readers, one day I will write a fully happy Tangled fanfiction!

Just a quick thanks to all those who read and reviewed the two oneshots I wrote before. If you sent a signed review while logged in I'm sure I replied individually but still, thanks to all you guys and the anonymous reviewers, you are all great! :D
