Title: To My Darling
Rating: K
Summary: A poem from the Doctor's POV. It's intended for Rose, but can be for any female companion.
Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who.
Author's Note: This is very different to my usual work. It's very formal, and doesn't have a particular structure. I hope you enjoy it!
To My Darling
My darling, you are beautiful and divine,
The soul of no woman can compare to thine.
You have the beauty of Aphrodite, and the intelligence of Elizabeth,
The innocence of the Virgin Mary, and the courage of Joan of Arc,
You are like a goddess - superior to me in every way
And I long for nothing more than to hold you, to touch you,
To tell you how I feel about you,
But I restrain myself, for I am afraid.
Afraid of what? you might ask. Rejection? That you may consider me unworthy,
Turn me down and make me feel the fool? Nay, 'tis something
Much more painful - it is fear of acceptance;
That you may match my love with your own,
Blinding me from reason and my better judgement,
And that together, our mutual felicity will blossom and flower
Like the amaranth - never fading, never dying;
But alas! for for a few blissful moments in Heaven, I must then endure
Eternal suffering in Hell -
For one day, you shall be taken from me,
Either by the hand of God or another cruel force of Fate
It is inevitable - you will be gone,
Leaving an emptiness in my heart,
An abyss, where happiness used to dwell.
And though I may attempt to drown my sorrows with the goblet of Bacchus,
Nothing can fill the gaping hole left inside me
And no one can heal the wounds your departure shall give me.
Others may come and go, but their influence on my life
Shall be miniscule compared to yours;
I shall be so far from that feeling of ecstasy
That I knew when I was in your presence,
And I don't know if I will be strong enough to cope
After being engulfed by an ocean of sadness.
And so I must continue to watch you from a distance,
Without getting so close that you will break
My fragile heart beyond repair.
My darling, you are perfect and divine,
You deserve a heart stronger than mine.

Okay, I know I should have put "hearts", but I couldn't be bothered.
amaranth - a legendary flower that never fades
Bacchus - the Roman god of wine
For those of you who are wondering where the hell this came from, I've been reading the memoirs of Casanova, and it's been a big inspiration.
