July 31, 1973

This is my third year at Hogwarts. I'm finally able to go to Hogsmeade during the school term. Well, when we have Hogsmeade weekends, anyway. Which means that I'm finally able to visit the sweet shop everyone talks about. I can't wait!

Closing the journal, James Potter rose from the desk in his room and, after placing the journal and quill in his trunk, closed the lid.

The school term began, as it always did, with the sorting feast. James and Sirius laughed about all the things they had done over the summer holiday. Remus chuckled under his breath at them, finding their adventures intriguing, yet saddened that his own summer was such a bore. Peter joined them and laughed, even though he had no clue what they were laughing about.

"So, Hogsmeade this year, guys. First weekend is in a few weeks. Ready to hit Honeydukes and joke shop?" Sirius asked after their laughter died down. Sorting was over and the students were enjoying the feast.

"Absolutely!" James exclaimed. "I can't wait to see what all the fuss is about."

"You guys aren't going to cause any trouble over there are you?" Remus asked softly.

"Us? Cause trouble? Never! What gives you that idea, Moony?" James looked at Sirius, a mocking shocked look on his face.

Remus rolled his eyes, "You always cause trouble."

James and Sirius excited ran down the path that led from Hogwarts to Hogsmeade. Remus followed at a slower pace with Peter.

At the entrance to the small magical town, James bounced on his feet waiting for his friends to catch up. He wanted them all to experience this together. When Remus and Peter arrived at his side, he grinned at his three friends. "Honeydukes first?" James asked, looking like a small child about to be given free rein in a toy shop.

Remus sighed, best to get this over with. "Sure, James, let's go," he answered and steered the group to the sweet shop.

Upon entering the shop, all four boys stood in awe at the brightly coloured displays and the shelves upon shelves of sweets. Any sweet they could ever imagine was in this shop. Remus looked over at James and Sirius and saw their eyes alight with delight as they looked all around them. Peter stood transfixed by the display of chocolate frogs off to the side of the door.

"Wow!" James drew out the word as he breathed out.

"This is amazing!" Sirius exclaimed. He suddenly rushed off to the back of the shop and the display of licorice wands.

James darted off to the wall in front of him and looked over all the different sweet treats displayed there before selecting several to purchase.

Remus slowly walked back to the sugar quills displayed on a rack near the counter and selected several different flavors to purchase.

Soon, James and Sirius were rushing around to every display in the shop, selecting items to purchase and arriving at the counter with armfuls of chocolate and sweets. Remus looked down at his own meager selection of sweets and sighed. His friends were going to be so much trouble today.
