Jake rested his head in his hands. The sixteen candles flickered and laughed. Glancing around his eyes rested on a card. Shrugging he opened it.

With a wince Jake held the card out over the candles, slowly the words burned away. Word by word the note was gone till the first sentence was all that was left. Jack placed the remainder on the table next to his cake.

With a quick breath the candles died out. The wooden chair scrapped the tiled floor as Jake left the room. He looked back once as the lights were turned out. "Happy Birthday to me."

The burnt card sat alone in the dark next to the cake. The only line left was the normal start to all his parents birthday cards. Happy Birthday Jack! I'm sorry your father and I couldn't't make it but...

Jack stared at his reflection in the mirror. His hand traced the tattoo under his eye. It lingered there before drifting to his shoulder. His other hand followed and he clung to himself. Tears drifted down the boy's cheeks only to drip down upon his red t-shirt.

The albino boy genius held himself as he laid against the wall. Sitting on the floor of his bathroom he shook and quivered from the sudden empty feeling left in his gut. Sliding slowly to the sit on the bath tub he reached out for something under the sink.

Silver metal sparkled and begged for him. Jack could hear it. It wanted him to. The shaking hand calmed as if someone was helping him. The metal bit into his skin breaking the pure with a bubbling red goo. 'Jack don't do this.'

"Leave me alone you bastard." Jack's voice cooed to the soft voice in his head. With slight struggle he repeated his action on the other wrist. The blades sparkle was gone tainted with his accursed blood. Laing back he landed in the tub.

The white porcelain turned a wonderful crimson, at least Jack thought it was. A poem taunted his mind.

"yakumo tatsu

Izumo yaegaki

tsumagomi ni

yaegaki tsukuru

sono yaegaki wo

Jack started to giggle as the darkness played at the edge of his vision. Sure to be over taken by the darkness Jack smiled. "At least something wants me." He mumbled giving to the wanting darkness.

Translation of the poem:

yakumo tatsu Eightfold rising clouds

Izumo yaegaki Build an eightfold fence,

tsumagomi ni An eightfold Izumo fence

yaegaki tsukuru Wherein to keep my bride--

sono yaegaki wo Oh, splendid eightfold fence!

Well what do you think?
