A/N: Trying to get up the energy to continue my larger story. This popped to my mind and I figured I could get something up while I found the energy to go back to that. I recognize that the timelines make no sense but this a short one-shot so I am not going to stress about it too much.
The Chief of Control looked down at the reports that continued to come in. It was the stuff of nightmares. In his long career as a spy, he had seen things that he would never had imagined as a civilian. Hell, he even had a robot as a spy that used to be an agent of KAOS. But this was something else. Creatures that may have come from space that were terrorizing whole towns. No weapons seemed to affect them and no barriers stopped them. So far, the information had been contained but they were starting to head towards major population centers. Soon the government was going to have to speak up and tell everyone what was going on. The reason he was involved was the concern that enemies of Control would take advantage of the situation.
Chief shook has head at that. One would hope that KAOS and others would recognize that this was a threat to all but he wasn't so sure. Siegfried and the others he had run into never seemed that reasonable. More concerning was the information that came in at the end of the last report. It seemed that these creatures were attracted to sound. Poor Larenby had the misfortune of disguising himself as a speaker at a concert and became a target. The Chief spent a moment mourning his loss.
He looked up when he heard a knock at this door. Maxwell Smart, agent 86, looked at the chief and said, "You looking for me, Chief?"
The Chief still could not fathom how this agent had been so successful. He was brash and seemed remarkedly unaware of his surroundings. Now more than ever, the Chief was aware of his loud demeanor and boisterous style. The only thing that the Chief could not dispute was the results. Agent 86 had been on of the most successful and notorious operatives that had ever worked at Control.
"Sit down Max," the Chief began.
"What's the matter Chief?" answered agent Smart, taking a seat across the desk from his superior.
"What I am about to tell you is at the absolute highest security clearance, although I am not sure how long we can keep it that way…"
"Chief, if it's a secret no one should say anything. I know I won't." Responded Max earnestly.
"I know Max, but…"
"Chief we can't have secrets getting out." Agent 86, without any supporting information, began a narrative that only he could really follow.
"I understand Max. If I can finish I think…" began the Chief before he was interrupted again.
"Chief this is unacceptable. Who's spilling our secrets?"
"Max…" the Chief tried again.
Agent 86 took breath and looked the Chief directly in the eye.
"Chief, I demand the Cone of Silence"!"
The Chief looked down at his reports and actually smirked slightly despite everything.
"You know Max," he said slowly, "this once I agree with you."
