The Chance of a Life Time

Summer vacation was nearing its end for students of the city of Vale. While some were dreading this time others cheering with joy. For gamers all around the world were celebrating the new release of the famous game Remnant: Grimm Eclipse II. Fans were standing out of their nearest GameStop by the mile for the release time. Televisions casting the trailer for the new game encouraged the fans even more as the clock counts down.

Female Narrator: "Legends. Stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite of recounting the exploits of heros and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts, of a forgotten past.

Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful, but he was born into an unforgiving world. An inevitable darkness – creatures of destruction – the creatures of Grimm – set their sights on man and all of his creations. These forces clashed, and it seemed the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void.

However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness, and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds. This power was appropriately named Dust. Nature's wrath in hand, man lit their way through the darkness, and in the shadow's absence came strength, civilization, and most importantly, life. But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die. And when they are gone darkness will return."

The fan cheered as the video ended and a young girl who also stood in line near the front, eagerly waiting for her copy of the game. She was wearing a red cap, with a black shirt, red and black shorts, and black converse boots. She had dark reddish brown hair and brown eye that shined with excitement. With the time closet at hand the young girl, Ruby, pulled out her per-order ticket ready, when suddenly someone called out thief. A tall man with red hair and a balers cap ran away from the crowd.

Ruby: "Someone call the police!"

Ruby yelled as she saw this action and chased after the man. Running as fast as she could was able to catch up with him in an ally way. Ruby then jumped at the right opportunity, putting all of her weight on him pinning him to the ground.

Ruby: "Return the belongings to those you stole."

Ruby demanded from the thief.

The man on the ground laughed at the thought of getting caught by a young little girl.

Man: "Sorry little red but I'm not getting caught by anyone."

The man rolled his body up and slammed her into one of the building, knocking the breath out of her. This freed the man from Ruby's grip, now on the ground Ruby coughed for air. The man couldn't help but laugh even more at how stupid this girl was for even trying to chase down a criminal. But was slightly enraged to even be caught by her. He picked up an old cane near by and beat Ruby over the head with it.

Roman: "To think that a bratty ass kid was able to catch up with me. Me? The Roman Torchwik!"

He laughed more as he kick her hard in the gut, but in turn Ruby was able to grab his leg.

Ruby: "Give back the things you took from those people."

Ruby was determined not to let go. The man got even more mad at her and kicked her all the way back to the entrance of the ally way. When he hear the sounds of police sirens nearing the ally way, he decided to make his escape.

Roman: "Consider yourself lucky Red."

Roman said as he ran off down the ally and jumped the fence in his escape.

Ruby still bruised from the beating she before passing out, she saw a regular dark olive green car drive up to the entrance of the ally way. A man and a woman stepped out of the car to see if she was alright. Ruby exhausted from her "heroism" fainted before them. Few minuets later, Ruby woke up to see there a police car, an ambulance, cameramen, and reporters around her. Wrapped up in a safety blanket, Ruby started to remember what has happened. Her head throbbed where the man hit her with the cane, Ruby placed her hand over the wound in hope to cool the pain just a little.

Looking over at the policemen she was able to see one of the officers talking to a man in a dark green suit with short gray hair. The woman next to the man look like to be with him, she had long blond hair tied in a bun. The woman then turned to Ruby and spoke up and pointed to the young red haired girl. This caught the police officers attention and walked towards Ruby with a pen and notepad. Most likely to get information on the man who stole from those people. Ruby did the best she could remember from the event the just happened. All while Ruby was being questioned she couldn't help but noticed that both the man and woman looked at Ruby and talked quietly amongst themselves.

With everything said and done, and the crowd settled down, Ruby's father finally made it to the seen of the crime. Pulling her into his arms with few tears in his eyes he was happy to know that she was safe. Her older sister not far behind also joined in the hug. As the small family was just about to leave when the man and woman from before got their attention.

Man with Gray Hair: "Excuses me, but may we have a moment of your time, I know this was a stressful moment for everyone. But I have some question that I would like to ask you. My name is.."

Just as the man was about to introduce himself Ruby spoke up first.

Ruby: "You're Professor Ozpin from Beacon Academy. You're the Headmaster of the most well known school in all of Vale."

The man grind happy to know that he was recognized by.

Ozpin: "I see you know who I am, glad to know. You must be Ruby Rose, I saw your last track competition. You were quite something, beating Vale's top track and field record for Junior High School. I wanted to ask you were did you learn to run like that? When I saw you chasing that man, I was quit amazed."

Ruby: "Signal Academy sir, Actually it was my Uncle Qrow who was the gym teacher there. I was complete garbage when he took me under his wing. Now I'm all like supper fast now. Like wush and stuff."

Ruby couldn't help but laugh at her own joke.

Ozpin: "I see, so you wan to run marathons?"

Ozpin said with a light twinkle in his eye.

Ruby: "Not exactly, you see I want to be a singer and song writer. Just like my mother was when she was my age. I'm hoping in two more year I can attend Beacon academy and graduate, and then get a Bachelor's degree in music when I reach collage."

Ozpin look at his female assistant with a warm smile, while she just nodded her head. As if she knew exactly what he was thinking.

Ozpin: "So you would like to come to my school?"

Ruby's eye light up with passion and said with confidence.

Ruby: "More than anything."

Ozpin smiled another warm smile at Ruby and nodded.

Ozpin: "Alright then. I will notify your schools headmaster and work out the details. Provided of course you pass our entrance exam."

Ruby and her family both couldn't believe what they all heard. Ruby's father, Tai, was the next to speak out.

Tai: "But that would put Ruby two years a head in her schooling. She would need to do the double her school work just to be able to catch up with the other kid."

Ozpin nodded just the same, understanding what Tai was trying to say.

Ozpin: "I am well of aware of what miss Rose must do. But this is entirely up to miss Ruby's choice. Well? Are you willing to put that much effort to enroll in my school miss Rose?"

Ruby couldn't believe her what she was hearing, she was already being scouted by the most prestigious schools in all of Vale. She knew full well what this would en-tale for her, but she also knew that she could not pass this chance up. Ruby took a big breath of air and said with great pride.

Ruby: "I would be honored, more than anything, to attend Beacon."

With those words Professor Ozpin accepted Ruby's answer. Both Ruby's father and sister congratulated her on getting noticed by the head master of The Beacon Academy. Happy and wanting to celebrate the happy family went out for a feast that night. But come next morning was the true battle for Ruby, she had exactly one month until Vale's entertains exams. With both her father and sisters help they spent that entire month helping Ruby with her studies. When it came to studding Ruby was no push over, she was ranked 4th in her entire school. That alone was already impressive, but the battle isn't over until Ruby finished the exam.

One month later both Ruby and her sister, Yang, was ready for their testing. It was finally time all or nothing, Ruby took her last deep breath before taking her test.

With two hour finally gone by the exam was over. Yang was able to finish and then a few minuets after her, Ruby was also done. One weeks later and their test scores were in, and the two of them both just barely passed the test. Happy with what they accomplished their father prepared a well home made dinner. Made with all of their favorite foods, a well baked turkey full of stuffing, Cajun mash potatoes, double eggs, pan-seared green chili peppers, and for desert rocky rode backed Alaska. All for a job well done for both of them, their father couldn't have been more proud of them.

But little did the two sisters know that their journey has only just begone.

Then the fallowing week came and it was finally the sisters first day of high school. Ruby was so nervous of her first day of her new school and being two years ahead didn't help her feel any better. Getting ready Ruby couldn't help but to double check everything she had on her. Made sure she had all of her school books ready, notebooks ready for each of her classes, her portable laptop, her lucky Avengers pencil case, and all of her writing utensils were at the ready.

Double checking her outfit in the mirror, she wearing her favorite Iron Man shirt, black ripped skinny jeans, and her favorite a red and black cap with what looked like a band signature on the side of it. Every thing seemed in order, happy with herself Ruby was ready for the day to come.

Yang: "Ruby hurry up or we'll miss the bus for school!"

Yang called for her sister from down stairs.

Ruby: "On the way!"

Ruby yelled back, as she pulled her back pack over her shoulders. As she was just about close her door she remember to grab her reading glasses before she forgot them. Downstairs Ruby was greeted by their family's corgi, Zwei. Seeing her dog Zwei always put Ruby in a good mood no matter what.

Ruby: "I'll see you later Zwei. Love you."

Ruby gave Zwei hugs and a quick peck on the head before leaving for school.

At the bus stop Ruby couldn't help but get nervous all over again. Her sister on the other hand was supper excited. Looking at her sisters attire she wasn't sure if what she was wearing was even school appropriate. She had short brown shorts, a yellow tank top with an orange and yellow plaid over-shirt, with brown combat boots and a decorative purple bandanna wrapped around it.

Yang turned to Ruby with a big smiling grin on her face, she then moved her ray-bans to her shirt and wrapped her arms around Ruby giving her a big sister hug.

Yang: "Oh! I'm so excited that my baby sister is Beacon Academy with me!"

Ruby was both happy and adenoid by her older sister, treating her like a baby.

Ruby: "Please stop."

Just barley able to breath out Ruby was able to manage some words. Embarrassed that no one saw her sister's baby talk.

Yang: "But I'm so proud of you!"

Yang said while she spun Ruby around in the air and letting her go.

Ruby: "Really Sis it was nothing."

Ruby said feeling like she didn't really do anything at all to get to where she was today.

Yang: "What do you mean? You were incredible, it was like out of some of those mangas you read all the time. Shy dorky girl chasing after bad guys, entering a high govern school. You were amazing, everyone at school will think you're the bee's knees!"

Yang couldn't whip her smile off her face even if she wanted to.

Ruby: "I don't want to be the bee's knees, I just want to be a normal girl with normal knees."

Ruby was finally starting to show her worries.

Yang: "What's with you today? Aren't you happy?"

Yang starting to worry about her sister and hoping she doesn't run away.

Ruby: "Of course I'm happy, its just… I got to move two year a head, I just don't want anyone to think that I'm special or anything."

Ruby finally opening up to her older sister with tear starting to fill her eye. Yang saw this and couldn't help but pull Ruby into a soft warm hug.

Yang: "You are special and you have awesome talent just like Summer did when she was our age. You just need to believe in yourself more. You got this, I know you do."

With the hug done and over with Ruby wiped her eye and gave a firm nod. The bus then drove up to their stop, Yang picked her side pack and placed it over her shoulder. Then both Ruby and Yang got onto the bus which was crowed with other kids. Yang not completely happy with the packed students as they walked down the bus, one of the kid threw up into a barf bag. Yang and Ruby were both grossed out. Finally sitting down Ruby couldn't help but noticed that Yang had some puck on her shoe.

Ruby: "Aw Gross, Yang you got puck on your shoe."

Yang was horrified at the site of her boots. Passing it toward Ruby hoping her younger sister would help clean it off.

Yang: "Ew! Gross, gross, gross!"

After a minute of teasing Yang finally cleaned it of herself. Both of them started looking around at all the other kids riding the bus with them and all the other stops along the way.

Yang sitting near the window got to see a lot, as they passed by a beautiful park and cafe, and a good looking sushi shop. Yang couldn't help but think of all of her favorite sushi rolls, onigiri, gyoza (potsticker), along with other easy Japanese recipes that her stepmom and her made when she was younger. Ruby on the other hand could see on the way was a music shop and a book store she hasn't been to before. Ruby giggle remembering all the books Yang use to read to her as a little girl. But what stood out the most to the girls was the school and the school grounds. Finally at their destination the girls ready themselves for what they thought was going to be an amazing year.
