ALEX'S POV

It had been a long day. I was fucking exhausted. Recording with the guys was fun, but after a couple of weeks it was pretty tiring. I was looking forward to getting home. As I waited in the lift to get to my floor, I felt the wave of exhaustion almost drown me. The lift shuddered to a halt, and as the doors creaked open, I heard voices.

I peered round the corner as I walked out, and realised that I had new neighbours on my floor.
The couple looked friendly enough at first glance. The guy was tall and muscly and had a kind of weird look about him, but he was smiling and laughing. The girl though, she looked dead. She was thin, too thin. And she had massive dark circles under her eyes. But there was something about her that spoke of an inner wonder. Still, she seemed okay.

'Hey! I'm Alex, you guys new?'

'Yeah.' The guy quickly turned away again and carried on searching through his bags for something.

Alright. So maybe they weren't so friendly.

'So... Can I ask your names? It would be good to get to know you if we're going to be neighbours'

The guy turned to face him, and stared at him silently for a few seconds.
'I'm Jake'.
The girl stared at the floor the whole time, not saying a word. Finally, Jake found the keys that he had apparently been looking for, unlocked the door, picked up the bags, and the couple disappeared behind the slammed door.

Huh. Talk about rude.

I shrugged it off, and let myself into my own flat to settle down for a cosy night in.

Chicken fajitas. This was the life. Always a good meal to satisfy hunger.

I got up to clear the dishes away, singing one of our new songs as I did so. I liked to practice by myself sometimes, it cleared up insecurities I sometimes had about my voice. It was dumb, but I always felt the pressure from the guys and from the fans. Guitar was easy enough, it came naturally, but singing was always a secondary thing for me.

As I washed up, I heard some weird thumping sounds from next door. Great. Noisy neighbours. Maybe they were having some really vigorous sex. Who knew.

I ignored it, and settled down to watch some tv. If they wanted to play it awkward, then fine. I didn't have to be friendly. There was just something about that girl.
