"AHH!"
Not even a split second passed after the scream did Zest open his eyes. He recognized the voice that it belonged to and without even thinking he ran to where he had heard the scream. He saw a silver cart at the open door and a woman was on the floor in a daze.
"Floe! You alright?!"
On the floor was his friend and close companion Floe, wearing her red and white robe signifying her job as a White Wizard. She seemed to be scared out of her wits, her long blonde hair was messy from having her hood thrown off her head.
She had a hand on her chest as she looked up at the knight, "Zest! Thank goodness!" She got to her feet and immediately stood beside him. "I awoke from my slumber and saw this...this thing approach me!"
Zest looked toward the door and at first all he saw was a red ball floating in the air he soon discovered that the ball was attached to a white furred creature he had never seen before. It was a cute little bear like animal with a big nose and big eyes.
"Miss, I assure you I mean no harm...kupo."
It talked!
Zest immediately reached for his left hip and to his shock discovered that his broadsword was gone. No matter, he thought and instead raised his fists, "What matter of beast are you?"
The creature pushed the cart into the room and the two warriors of light backed up to give him some room. They heard it mumble to itself as it passed them without incident, "Sheesh...this early in the morning and I already have to put up with this crap, kupo."
It stopped the cart in the center of the room next to a circular table that had been knocked over by Zest when he had come to help Floe and without using its arms the moogle set the table upright with some magic, much to the bewilderment of the two warriors.
"What? You never seen a moogle do magic before, kupo?"
Floe lowered her hands to her sides, "To be quite honest, I have never heard of a moogle before..."
Zest agreed with a single nod.
The moogle seemed more annoyed than anything suddenly, "That smarts, kupo...then again we get all sorts of visitors and some say the same thing, kupo. Should be used to it by now but whatever, kupo. Come over here and have some breakfast before it gets cold."
Cautiously the two went over to the table and while Floe sat down first, Zest finally took a look around the room. He had been too preoccupied earlier to notice thanks to the incident, but the room he and Floe were in did not look familiar in the slightest. It was an all-white room save for the red carpet and save for the table and a couple dressers there was only a large bed on the far side of the room. A pair of glass balcony doors were open and the curtains swayed in the warm breeze that carried the scent of salt water through the air. The gentle sound of the ocean was unmistakable to the veteran adventurer, which raised more questions as to where he was.
'Never hurts to ask, right?' He thought before taking a seat at the table. There were only two chairs at the small table and the moogle's trays of food took up a majority of the space it had to offer. "So um...you're a moogle I understand that...but where exactly are we?"
Floe was already stuffing her mouth of a delicious looking cake but she stopped long enough to hear the response. She too was curious.
The moogle sighed as it poured a couple cups of tea for his customers, it's tone less than enthusiastic, "This is Mog's Resort, kupo. A private vacationing spot located in a secret location in the world. We don't always allow outsiders unless they have paid in advance but considering Mr. Mog likes you two he gave you a free pass so be grateful, kupo, and don't cause me any trouble."
Of course the explanation left little in terms of answers but it did give them the big one of where they were, but not much of anything else. Zest ran his hand through his short fire red hair and sighed, "well, least that is out of the way..."
Floe finished with her cake and took a bite out of a sandwich, "We will have to thank Mr. Mog if we ever see him, though to be honest I would much rather try and find a way back home first. I'm sure our friends are terribly worried about us as we are worried about them."
Zest agreed. He and Floe had been on another adventure with their allies earlier but after stepping through a portal in the Arcane Labyrinth then somehow ended up here. The other two members of their party could handle themselves for a time but he didn't like the idea of leaving them hanging. Such was his personality as a knight.
"That might be a bit of a problem, kupo."
The two warriors turned to the moogle, and Floe was the one who asked, "What do you mean?"
"We found you two unconscious on the beach last night. We didn't see any portal or door, nor any other way that could possibly show how you got on the island."
Zest and Floe exchanged worried glances with each other.
If what the moogle said was true, then that means they might be stuck on the island for a long while. Possibly forever.
"There has to be a way to return home," the knight said with conviction.
Floe agreed, "Right, we should head back to the beach and try to find any clues that could help us."
Both the warriors of light were on the same page, but not the same book as the moogle serving them.
"Good for you now please finish eating before I lose my cool, kupo."
A/N: I made this story after hearing of a Japanese exclusive novel based on the first three Final Fantasy games, and the knight and the white mage are named after the two characters in that novel.
