Author's Note: Yes, hello. This is just a tiny drabble I'm using to stretch myself by publishing some of my works online. Reviews are extremely welcome.
Once—long ago, now—at this moment, and in the future—forevermore, lives a man. Known by many names, he wanders. He is lost until what he seeks is found. Though he knows where it lies, he must wait for it to rise. At times, he has the face of an old man, but at others, that of a youth. But, always, he has the broken heart of an ancient creature who has lived the lives of a thousand men. Loss is his sole companion.
Though his heart is shattered, it remains forever compassionate and always selfless. Crops grown, illnesses healed, tyrants overthrown. These are the footprints he leaves behind. Whispers follow him, attempting to explain his incredible feats. Some speculate, and a few even claim to have seen it, that he commands a great, winged beast with breath of fire and skin like plated steel. The name of the beast, like the name of the man, has been lost in the clutches of time. Its disappearance is said to have marked the end of an age long past, and to have left the Wanderer utterly alone. A precious few call the Wanderer a sorcerer, claiming magic to be his power, yet most men deny his very existence. Myth and legend they call him—A story of Impossibilities.
His tragedy, however, is true. The Wanderer lives a half life, for he has lost that which made him whole. But the story has not ended. Though his life is filled with sorrow, pain, and regret, the Wanderer's eyes remain the same. Regardless the age in which he appears, his eyes—bluer than the sky—smile. They smile with hope.
One day, the Wanderer will cease his wandering, for Courage will rise and take his place as the Once and Future King. Side by side they will be again, for the Wanderer's search will end. Magic with Courage, Warlock with King—united as equals. Theirs is a bond time will no longer prevent and secrets no longer corrupt. Emrys with Dragon, Friend with Friend, Merlin with Arthur.
His waiting ends,
For his king
Rises again.
