Doomed

The kitten crawled out of its hole. The small creature was simply terrified. He had just witnessed something that no kitten should ever have to see: his mother's death. When the skies turned purple and red rain fell, she told him to hide. Moments later she was torn in half by a green-skinned two-leg. The rain continues to fall. He continues to run. At last there is a tree with dug-up roots to hide in. More greenskins chase behind. He only can hope that their arms can't reach this far down.

The moaning subsides. Anxiously, he crawls out of the tree roots. The sky is blue once more, with the square sun rising in the east. He has survived. He runs back to the ruins of his home to see if there's any hope of survivors. Blood soaks the wooden shack out in the middle of a prairie. On the bed is the one two-leg that mother said to trust. But only half of the two-leg remains. Horrified, he runs once more. The cat shelter fares no better, with entrails strewn all around. He is the only survivor of the greenskin attack. His eyes opened only three days ago. Now he wishes he was still blind. Without mother, he is doomed.

Curiously, a pack of wolves approach the ruined sheds. They smelled the blood from miles away. A puppy crawls right up to the terrified kitten and gives him a lick. The kitten looks at the puppy, terrified. This puppy is friendly, and twice his size. The puppy puts the small ginger kitten on her back and runs to her parents. The kitten can't understand what is going on, but he plays along. The wolf pack accepts their new companion.

Months have passed. The terrified kitten still looks up to the skies, searching for his mother and siblings, but he manages to lead a normal life. Guided by his friend, he has become a pack favourite. The alpha female has taken him in and cares for him just as well as her own daughter, the one who saved him from certain doom. Though small, he manages to keep up. Everything is going fine until another pack comes in.

In the confusion of attack, the kitten becomes separated from the pack. He runs desperately trying to avoid the claws and teeth of an invading wolf. At last he finds his way back to the pack, which fights off the insane chaser. It seems like the battle is over, but more are on the way. The pack must move to another forest. A new obstacle stands in their way since the last time they visited: a ravine. It slices the land in half and stretches as far as the eye can see. At the narrowest point, the wolves leap over. The ginger kitten doesn't make it. He plummets to the unseen bottom. Terrified, the wolf pup leaps into the abyss after her friend.

Both hit the ground. Only one survives the impact.
