When Furi Pupi woke up the sky was gray and his house was silent, as it always was. He got up, and took his dog for a walk out along the waterfront. There was a sort of gloom in the air, and a slow fresh wind was starting to pick up, blowing his unwashed hair. Every day was the same. No one to talk to, no one to listen. He leaned against the rail and looked out over the water. The wind blew patterns in its still surface; leaves danced gently down and spun delicately. Furi sighed, and the dog looked up at him and whined. He petted it gently and it licked its master's hand.

He had always been alone at South Junior High. None of the other kids had wanted to befriend him. They had mocked his long hair; laughed when he ran into stuff. But now… The dinosaur and the girl, what did they want from him? Calling him boss, following him around. Surely they were making fun of him?

The wind picked up, making strong ripples in the water. Mist seemed to fall from the sky. Lightening flashed once; the dog leaned against his leg and whined. Then came the rain, falling densely in heavy drops, quickly soaking his thick green hair.

The first day of high school, the dinosaur had approached him, had asked him about himself. It kept talking to him, laying its head on his desk, sticking itself into Furi's personal space until he snapped at it. But it didn't leave even then, had listened when he told it his goals, had continued to be nice to him even after he wasn't to it.

Furi was soaked through, his clothing clinging to his body, the dog shivering next to him. He stood there for a long time, staring out at the water, the rain making a hundred thousand ripples in its surface. The rain continued to fall around him, no place untouched by its persistent drive.

The dinosaur and the girl… were his friends...? They had stayed by him, even after he had lost, even though he told them not to. He didn't need them; he could do it without them. Yet, even with their help he had failed to become the class representative. How could he hope to become student body president alone? Maybe he did need them. Cones and Marbel, and even Vagli. His friends.

Furi looked up from the water, straight up into the rain. The wind had died down a bit, the rain fell more gently. He left the place, walking back to his silent house, its quiet comfort, smiling through the rain.
