Maya Fey had grown accustomed to the detention center. The guards knew her, but any attempt she made to crack a joke with them or ask them how their days had been fell flat. She supposed she wouldn't want to tell potential murders how her day had been if she were in their position either, but it still made her feel somewhat silly.

She didn't get very many visitors; only Nick every once in awhile, but she knew that today he was out investigating and the only company she was going to get were the guards in the back. But somehow she stared through the dirty plexiglass for hours on end as though someone would come in. It wasn't as though there was anything better to do.

That was when the door opened.

"Visitor for Maya Fey," the policeman grunted. The guard nodded, and the policeman was promptly shoved out of the way, much to his dismay, by...Franziska von Karma. The tall, slender, well-dressed prosecutor then proceeded to slam the door in the poor police worker's face.

"V-Von Karma! W-What are you doing here?!" Maya tried to disguise the fact that she was absolutely terrified of Franziska von Karma.

Franziska only hmphed and sat down in front of Maya. "I came here to warn you, Maya Fey."

"W-warn me? What do you mean?"

Franziska's face was uncharacteristically empty of the condescending smile Nick was always complaining about. "I will show no mercy in tomorrow's trial. The new evidence presented may be painful to you." There was a certain graveness in her tone that made Maya wonder if this was really Franziska.

"Don't kid yourself, von Karma."

"You are an awfully spirited little girl, Maya Fey."

"Don't go 'little girl'-ing me, we're the same age!" Maya realized that she'd balled her fists and her face was nearly pressed against the glass that Franziska was sitting on the other side of. "You're no better than I am, Franziska von Karma! What are you doing, coming here just to make fun of me, huh? I may be accused of murder, but I'm not a jerk!" Suddenly all the anger that had been bottled up inside her started flowing out of her mouth.

Von Karma's expression seemed to shift back and forth between confidence and defeat, and she seemed to be biting down on her lip to the point it was almost bleeding. "There is one more thing I wanted to tell you," she said, keeping her tone level.

"And what's that?"

She looked down. "I am...sorry."

"Sorry for what?! For forging-"

"Quiet, fool!" Franziska's hand went to her whip, but she didn't grab it. "Let me finish. I am sorry...for all the family you have lost. It is...I...understand." The other woman's face looked somewhat red for one moment. "Do not think this is a moment of sentimentality for me. I will not hesitate to hurt you in court. But...I am sorry. I do not wish to cause you more pain than is necessary in a court of law."

Maya was speechless. There wasn't much she felt she could do other than stare straight into Franziska's ice blue eyes and try to find the spark of kindness that had inspired this speech. "I am a prosecutor, Maya Fey. I am not your enemy, though. Remember that."

With that, she turned around and left, letting the door slam.

i just finished reunion and turnabout last night and DAMN that was intense.

anyways i just thought it was interesting that franziska's father shamed her and maya's aunt also shamed her, and both of them lost a family member to death? idk, but yeah, aa femslash is important.
