Aimee walked through the streets of Dublin, hunching her shoulders against the cold January breeze. She reached into her bag and took out a Zippo lighter and a cigarette. She lit it and took a long drag. As she exhaled, some of her anxiety left her body with the blue smoke that swirled into intricate pictures in the midnight air.
Aimee stopped suddenly. She had the feeling that someone was watching or following her. She started walking again, faster this time, eager to get home. Unable to shake that feeling, she took out her mobile and hit speed-dial number 2.
"Hello?"
"Matt," she sighed with relief on hearing her twin brother's voice.
"Aimee! Where are you? I've been worried sick..." Aimee and Matt were best friends and they looked out for each other. Their mother was an alcoholic and a junkie. They never knew their father so it was a good thing they still had each other.
"Look, I was at that party but I left. I'm on my way home but I have this weird feeling," she frowned.
"How long will you be? And what's wrong?"
"Half an hour at the most. I feel like... Someone's watching or following me... I guess I'm just being paranoid."
"Okay. I'm gonna start walking towards you. Keep walking."
Aimee nodded even though he couldn't see her and hung up.
"Aimee, is it?" a man's voice asked from behind her.
She turned around quickly, her heart racing. A tall, pale man with eyes that looked almost red was smiling menacingly at her.
"Who are you?" Aimee asked, her voice shaking.
"I'm your worst nightmare," he winked and leapt towards her.

Matt walked briskly in the direction of his sister. As he got closer, he started to hear screaming. He started running, calling his sister. "AIMEE!! AIMEE!!"
The screaming got louder and louder until he saw her – lying on the side of the road, screaming and withering in pain. "Aimee! What happened?! What's wrong?! Oh God..."
"Matt! It's burning!! Help me!" she cried.
Then everything happened in a blur.
"I need an ambulance!"........... The ambulance arrives........... Matt holds Aimee's hand........... "Is that a bite mark?"............ "Looks like she's been poisoned.".......... "None of the painkillers are working."............. Aimee is still screaming.
"I'm sorry Matt, we're doing all we can, but... The painkillers aren't working. Maybe she'll pull through. But if the pain continues it might be fairer to Aimee to pull the plug..." the doctor who was trying to treat Aimee explained.
Aimee had been in severe pain for the past two days but hadn't passed out from it at all. She screamed a lot but sometimes she didn't have the energy to scream so she just cried quietly. The doctors didn't know what was wrong with her. The only injury they could find was a human bite mark. They guessed she had been poisoned but they had no idea what they poison was. Whatever it was, it was running through her veins, shutting her vital organs down one by one. It was killing her, and they doctors had no way to stop it.
