Monday Morning

Mmmmm... Is it morning already? Kurt rolled over in bed, intent to ignore the fact that it was light out. Yes, it was Monday, but he didn't have to be anywhere before lunch and was going to take full advantage of that. Only, when his body met empty space he immediately woke up.

Wasn't there supposed to be another body next to him? I didn't dream that, did I?

The thought of having dreamed his relationship with Adam, having dreamed the two of them moving in together, caused his chest to constrict and his heart to hurt. He couldn't have, could he? Yes, back in Lima during his teenage years Kurt had often dreamed about when life was supposed to get better, about living in New York, about going places, and about having a boyfriend.

But surely he should be over that now?

It had been so real...

A quick look around showed that he wasn't in the Buswick loft though, so at least that part of the maybe-a-dream-hopefully-not was true. That left only one thing to do.

Kurt got up, toed on his slippers – because February in the city made for cold floors – and went hunting. It was bound to be a short hunt, since it was a small apartment, which was good for his nerves.

Thirty seconds later he came to a stop outside of the sleeping alcove. In the middle of the room a blanket covered the floor, with candles in a circle around it, and a pick-nick basket waiting in the middle. And next to it, kneeling, a tousled blond.

"Adam."

The name came out in a sigh, relief and happiness coloring Kurt's voice. Not a dream then.

"Morning, darling. Happy Valentine's Day. Come," and the Brit opened his arms. Kurt hurried over and buried himself in his boyfriend's arms.

"I woke up and you weren't there. I thought... For a moment I thought I'd dreamed you."

He didn't say more – didn't need to – and the arms around him tightened.

"I'm sorry, darling. I thought I'd surprise you with a nice breakfast, with it being not only Valentine's Day but our first morning in our very own apartment as well. I got you some treats," the blond teased, and Kurt smiled.

"Oh? Like what?"

Later, much later, Kurt licked the last remains of croissants, chocolate and strawberries from Adam's mouth with a satisfied smile. This, right here, was everything he'd ever wanted. It was everything he'd dreamed about, and better, because even though he might occasionally wake up to an empty bed, he was never truly alone.

"I love you, Adam."

"Love you too, Kurt."

And that said it all.
