In Loving Memory
He stood there staring out at the ocean in their favorite spot on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Everyone else had already left leaving him there by himself. Next to him was the granite and pewter memorial for his wife who had died just a week before. It seemed fitting to have the memorial's dedication on Memorial Day for she died in the line of duty and saving his ass to boot. He turned to the memorial and silently read it once again.
In loving memory of Alison Reaghan Faireborn who gave her life valiantly for her country on Monday, May 23, 2005.
Loving wife to Dashiell Robert Faireborn and beloved daughter to Robert Michael Burnett and Janelle Rein Hart-Burnett. Proud shoulder in the United States Army. Intricate part of the GI Joe team as Lady Jaye. She made us all proud. We all loved her as she loved us. She will be greatly missed.
He had a river of tears rolling down his cheeks as he read the bottom of the memorial.
Rest in peace Allie

He cried as he looked at the words as he shakily touched her name. "I will always love you baby. I miss you so much. It hurts so bad. I wish I could take your place but I can't. I'm so sorry. I should never have left." He stopped talking when he felt a hand rest on his shoulder and he turned to look at who was there.
"Tis not ye fault, laddie," Robert Burnett said softly. His own pain and sorry written all over his face and could be seen in his emerald green eyes that matched hers exactly. "She loved ye very much. Always remember that."
Flint nodded as he wiped the tears from his eyes.
"Come laddie. Let's go home," Robert said sadly as he steered the grieving widow towards the mansion where she had grew up in. They walked silently together, each in their own thoughts and memories of her.
THE END.
