Kilo looked around at the chaos that had consumed his home. Hollows ran rampant through the forest, tearing through trees and devouring every animal in sight. The once white snow was now stained red with blood for miles around. The sky was dark with swirling black clouds and purple lightening shot from the clouds to the ground. Thunder rumbled ominously in the distance. He had of course vanquished his enemies, but at what cost? Looking around again he concluded that the collateral damage was just too much. He could never return to this place, there were too many memories, too much heartache, too many sorrows for him to ever stay here for long. He couldn't rebuild. The palace had been destroyed completely by his Katon jutsu. The blood would eventually clot and become encrusted on the snow. The animals and life that had once been here would take a lifetime to be replenished. This once sparkling oasis of ice and snow had been reduced to nothing. And all this destruction had been wrought by his hands. He held his girlfriend close. She was wounded, and emotionally scarred, but weren't they all? Kilo opened the telepathic link with his forces again now that all the battles had been confirmed to be over.
"Toshiro", Kilo called out with his mind.
"Yea", Toshiro answered. "This is really weird Kilo. I'm not used to communicating with anyone else other than Hyōrinmaru. I feel exposed." Kilo let out a small laugh. Toshiro was his best friend. His shyness was still a testament to his young age despite all he did to prove he was otherwise.
"Forget that now. Tell me did all the other Soul Reapers make it out ok?"
"Matsumoto is here with me…..with sake. I don't know how she brought that here and still fought. Captain Kuchiki has injuries, but that can be fixed once we return to the Seireitei. Rukia is fine, helping her brother back. Ichigo overdid it as usual, but I've contacted Kisuke and he has already sent Orihime. She is en route to our location."
"And Renji?"
"Renji like Ichigo has exerted himself. Orihime will most likely see to him as well."
"Good to know that everyone is still alive", Kilo replied. Then he turned to his mate. "Have your warriors suffered any casualties?" He saw her eyes brim with tears, and that was all he needed for a affirmative. He would ask the number later. Kilo reached out again with his mind to his fellow Uchiha, Sasuke. "Brother, you fought well?"
"Hmpf", Sasuke said with a smirk. "You didn't think I'd lose did you?"
"Well then meet me back here", Kilo said. Now he drew his mind back to himself where he contemplated his losses. His uncle, his father, damn near his brother and sister. And because of his actions, he had reduced his home to a Hell on earth. He let the tears fall. They were necessary tears that were shed for the life lost and the bloodshed today. As the sun began to set on a horizon that was marred by smoke from the fires that would continue to rage on into the night, Kilo knew that he would never be able to return to his home. He held his mate close as he cried. All this death was because of him.
