Betrayal is your own Failure
The moment in which you are betrayed, time freezes and the way you view life changes forever.
You look back and you can see it.
At first it starts with the looks. People glancing out of the corner of their eyes watching your movements. The eyes that question your actions; your decisions. Glances you catch between friends, or enemies, that you know are about you, that you can't decipher. The eyes that were once familiar are suddenly foreign and mistrusting.
You disregard it, or give it little thought. You are always the center of scrutiny.
The whispering starts. Comments that follow you; snide remarks. Small things said offhand that cut you to the core. Facts that the few, not the many, should know. Abruptly everyone known about one failure or a single mistake. You become a matter of public concern. Everyone has an opinion about you.
Something is wrong, you can feel it but you don't understand. What can be done?
And then all of a sudden you are left out. Information you need, channels of communication that have always been there are silent. You're cut out of your own loop.
Why?
It means that you have been betrayed.
That the people closest to you, your friends. Those that you have trusted even when you knew that you shouldn't have. Those whose loyally you thought surpassed materialistic and personal gain. Those that you loved. Turn their backs on you.
Unworthy in their eyes.
The unforgivable lapse. The inexcusable mistake. Judgment day has come.
And you realize, as you stand alone. You can see your own failure reflected in their eyes.
And in that moment that time freezes you can see it.
That you have no one to blame but yourself
Betrayal is your own failure.
