Lily had to admit it, she was bored. All her homework was completed, yet all her friends sat round her still furiously scribbling away. Hang on... not all her friends. Grabbing her bag she shoved in all her work and levitated all the books back to their correct shelves. Without a backward glance at her fellow Gryffindors she left the library. A skip in her step, Lily sped off outside in search for her favourite tree to sit under when the weather seemed too overwhelming. And of course there he was. Lily couldn't help a smile spread across her face as she sank into the grass next to her best friend and Slytherin, Severus Snape. "Hey Sev!" She cheered, pulling his attention away from the book he was reading. She watched in satisfaction as a small, crooked smile appeared at the side of his mouth. "Hello, Lily," he replied, "managed to get all your homework done?" "Oh no, i thought i'd just ditch it all.." Lily lied, attempting to keep a straight face. Severus looked at his best friend in shock, "Lily! You know this is important, we've got our owl's coming up." At that Lily just began to laugh, "oh Sev, lighten up! I was joking!" She replied ruffling his jet black mop of hair. Finding out he had been played for a fool, Severus'es mouth transfigured into a straight line, "Oh." Seeing that she had obviously upset her friend Lily sighed, "cheer up Sev, I thought that maybe we could go to the three broomsticks this weekend, and i'll buy you a butterbeer!" Immediately Severus cheered up at the thought of spending the day with Lily. Soon the pair began to sink back into their usual routine of talking about schoolwork, and the latest gossip in their opposing houses.

Too absorb in their own conversation, the pair failed to notice a water balloon descending in their direction. On cue, the ballon hit Severus straight in the face, soaking him in a pink dye that stained his clothes. Lily's horror soon turned into fury as she whirled round at the bully she already knew had caused this. Wand out, Lily aimed a hex that hit James Potter square in the chest. James then froze and found he was stuck to the spot by an obscene amount of blue bubble gum. "What the hell, Evans!" He screeched as he saw his new boots covered in sticky blue gunk. However Lily was still furious and marched over to where he was rooted in the ground. "What the hell?!" She screamed, "WHAT THE HELL?! I'll give you what the hell Potter, ever try anything like that again and i swear, next time the bubble gum will be in that disastrous cleaning mop you call hair!" James stood with his mouth wide open, which when he realised, he closed with a quiet -snap-. Severus watched in wonder at the spectacle that was his friend defending him. Both boy's watched the girl with adoration. James felt his heart race as he had watched the red head defend her friend with such bravery and fire behind her eyes. Those amazing green eye's. Severus was watching Lily with a different adoration, one of respect as he saw Lily stand up for him, something no one else was willing to do. It was at that moment both boy's knew they were in love.
