I'll Be There For You
Damian was sitting in his room reading a useless book that held no new information thinking about his father. It was not fair that he had to constantly earn fathers approval, when all of his so called 'siblings' already had it. Grayson could do no wrong in his father's eyes, while Damian always managed to screw something up. Even Drake got more respect from his father than he did, which annoyed him to no end. Helena was treated like a princess, but that was because she had been around their father her entire life unlike him. It wasn't his fault that mother insisted on keeping him a secret so why couldn't father even try to act like he trusted him?
Helena always tries to pretend like he doesn't bother her, but he was able to see through the pathetic façade. She tried to strike up a conversation whenever he was around, usually trying to convince him to let her show him around Gotham. He always declined, saying that he wasn't in the mood and to leave him the hell alone.
"Damian?" Great now she was knocking at his door.
"Go away Helena." Damian wasn't able to call her by her last name since they shared it, so he was forced to call her Helena. She picked the locks on Damian's door and came inside.
"I want you to come shopping in town with me. After we're done we can do something that you want to do." She gave him her most charming smile, the one that no one outside the family could say no to.
"I do not feel like going out today. Goodbye." She just stood there in the doorway watching him.
"Too bad." He looked up from his book to glare at her.
"Excuse me?"
"I said too bad. You're coming with me even if I have to drag you there kicking and screaming. So get your big boy pants on and let's go. I'll be downstairs waiting. Don't make me come back up here." She closed the door and walked downstairs.
Damian was surprised to say the least. His sister had stood up to him, and even he could respect that. When father died Helena became closer to Damian, to where he trusted her more than anyone else in the house. About five minutes later he was dressed, combed, and ready to spend the day with his older sister.
It had been boring up until they were finished with her To Do list. Damian had no idea where he could possibly want to go in Gotham, so Helena suggested they go get some ice cream.
The owner was a friend of Alfred's and the food there was…adequate.
"You know Damian it would be nice if you came out of your room sometimes." Here we go again with this conversation topic.
"Why should I? I know when I am not wanted."
"Who said we didn't want you around?" She put her spoon down and crossed her arms.
"Oh please do not act as if you do not know. Father never wanted me in the first place, so I am just a complication to him. After he came back and allowed me to keep being Robin I thought he would finally start trusting me. I was mistaken."
"Look Dami dad just needs time to learn that you can follow his orders. You aren't exactly helping yourself by ignoring everything he says."
"So if I follow orders he will trust me?" Helena shrugged.
"It would be a good way to start."
"Alright I will try."
"On the battlefield it's either his way or the highway Damian. Dad is trying to give you a chance to prove yourself. I wouldn't screw it up if I were you." They both finished their ice cream and went back to the manor. Right before he finished walking up the stairs Helena stopped him.
"Damian?" He turned around.
"Yes?"
"I know you're not one to talk about your feelings, and believe me I'm not either, but if you ever need someone to help you out my doors always open." You could tell she uncomfortable talking about the subject.
"Thank you for the advice Helena. And for taking me out today. It wasn't as bad as I expected." As soon as Damian was out of earshot she smiled. That kid wasn't as bad as he wanted people to believe.
