"Hey!" Thalia barked at us.
Grover held her awkwardly in an attempt at slow dancing. Fortunately, his Converse were still on, but he looked as miserable as Hades.
"Dance you guys," she continued, "You look stupid just standing there."
Percy glanced at me like dancing was the last thing he wanted to do. Then his eyes roamed around the gym, straying around a mob of girls wearing tight, brightly coloured jeans and tank tops. A small pang of hurt hit me in the chest.
Percy wouldn't go ask a stranger to dance, would he? Especially not when a friend—who's saved his life multiple times, may I add—was standing right in front of him.
"Well?" I insisted.
"Um, who should I ask?"
My hand lashed out quickly, aimed at his stomach.
"Me, Seaweed Brain." I said through gritted teeth.
Percy winced. "Oh. Oh, right."
I followed Percy onto the dance floor and he glanced at Thalia and Grover quickly. His hand was shaking when he put it on my waist. I gripped his hand tightly in mine.
"I'm not going to bite," I assured him, a little miffed, "Honestly, Percy. Don't you guys have dances at your school?"
When he didn't respond, I got the feeling he'd had bad experiences with school dances. We shambled around for a while. Percy wouldn't look at me and he continuously stepped on my toes. If I weren't dancing with Percy—who was my best friend—I probably would've sighed and pushed my dance partner away. But, I stayed with him, for his own benefit.
I've read some other stories Fanfiction and I noticed how they've turned Annabeth into a Mary Sue. I tried to avoid that. How did I do? - aphroditesgurl
