A/N: I just found this and decided to post it. I wrote it a long time ago when I was studying for a history exam. I didn't edit it though, so sorry for that.

Jasper's thoughts

Just another day in history, another boring day filled with Civil War history that will be totally Unionized and not consider the Confederate side at all, and when it is considered will be totally misrepresented. Not all of us were fighting for slavery… This is not a subject I enjoy having debates about, so I let my mind wander to other things. I don't like this new school. Why do I have to come to this school? I could stay home and babysit Nessie. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, I don't go out where people can see me other than this stupid school anyway…

"Jasper Hale!" I snapped to attention. "Would you answer the question please?" The annoyance was pouring from the teacher.

"Uh, could you please repeat the question please?" I asked, feeling nervous.

The teacher sighed. "I asked you if you if the Confederate States were justified in removing themselves from the Union."

Great. Why do they always ask me this question? Well, this dimwit is going to get my answer, and I know exactly what will happen. I'll get reprimanded for saying the wrong answer, and the class will hate me forever because the teacher will assign a long essay on the subject. At least I have a collection of 20 essays already written to choose from though.

I took a deep breath in through my mouth. "Yes, the Confederate States were justified in seceding from the Union. They felt like their rights were being encroached on."

"Okay, thank you Mr. Hale," the teacher said with a small smile.

What? No yelling? No essay? I am not used to this.

"Jasper brings up a good point, the people of the Confederate states felt hostility from the Union towards their lifestyle. It is feasible to even say that the Emancipation Proclamation is unreasonable because it called for freedom of the slaves in states that weren't part of the Union anymore."

Wow. I am literally in shock right now. I felt a kick on my chair. I looked over my shoulder to see what Emmett wanted.

"You finally got the question right," He whispered only loud enough for me to hear. I gave him a small nod as I leaned back in my seat.

I smiled slightly. Maybe this school wouldn't be so bad anyway…

A/N: So this was just a short little thought that I was thinking of, similar to a lot of other stories, I'm sure. Here's just my idea of one history class with Jasper on the Civil War.
