A poem from Shinobi to Hokage. They are bound by loyalty to the leader, they are the twisted, warriors of the leaf, some see it as pride, others, as a sacrifice. Giving up what makes you human for the sake of the village, and they are alone in the end.

Words left unspoken

We wear the mask that grins and lies, it hides our cheeks and shades our eyes. *

We live a dark life, we know it's true, we hide in shadows, we hide for you.

This debt we pay to human guile; with torn and bleeding hearts we smile.*

A touch of insanity to colour our lives, behind closed doors is where it strives.

You live life ignorant and oblivious, we sacrifice for your innocence.

You are the leader, we are your pawns, all in hope, for a new dawn.

We form promises made to break, and live a life that we know if fake.

We are players in a deadly game, we are bloodied, we have no shame.

In our eyes we wonder why, but all we say are cynical lies.

We live by the code, our ninja way, but it is dead and that it stays.

Why should we be left to die, alone, counting all our tears and sighs?

The shinobi have paid the ultimate price, we are the guardians, cold as ice.

You have used us, we are made to be used, we are your humble tools, we serve only you.

But as we die, we are forgotton, replaced by one younger, not as rotted.

And as one nameless shinobi's legacy is lost, along goes with it,
