Spring
"Aah~ ii kimochi~" Jirou said as he lay down on the grass at the river bank.
It has been a while since the weather would allow Jirou to sleep outside without freezing. The snow already melted, flowers were starting to bloom, and the sun was shining more often. Yes, spring was coming closer, meaning so did graduation.
Jirou looked up at clear blue sky. It had been a while since Jirou saw a sky as blue as this day. And as he looked at it, he realized how he had missed seeing such a beautiful sky during the winter.
The sun was shining brightly, making it harder for Jirou to keep his eyes open to look at the sky. He quickly gave in, and slowly closed his eyes.
He felt a cold breeze stroking his skin, making him realize that it was still winter. Somehow, this thought made him feel reassured.
Just a few more months.
A few more months until spring starts.
A few more months until I'm in High School.
He might not have showed it, but Jirou was pretty nervous to become a high schooler. But at the same time it made him excited as well.
How much different would it be from middle school?
What kind of changes would there be?
Questions such as these were flowing through his mind. He had no idea what to expect.
But one thing he knew for sure.
No matter what changes there would be, he would still be playing tennis. His love for tennis wouldn't change.
Would I be able to become a regular again? It would be great if I could.
To be able to play against new strong players. But also against ones I have played before.
As he thought this, he remembered his matches against Marui Bunta, making a smile appear on his face.
It's been a long time since he had an official match against Marui. He would do anything, just to play against him again.
Would he continue to play tennis in high school as well?
Jirou could not imagine Marui not playing tennis.
It would be great our schools were to play against each other.
And that I would have to face Marui.
A bigger smile appeared on Jirou's face. The possibility to play against Marui made him even more excited.
"Ah, isn't that Hyotei's Akutagawa?"
Jirou heard a voice approaching.
"What's with that creepy smile on his face? I don't think I would even want to know what he's dreaming."
The voice he heard sounded familiar. Curious to whether his suspicions were right, he decided to open his eyes.
And just as he thought.
"Ah! Marui-kun!" He excitedly got up.
"Y-Yo." The sudden awakening surprised Marui.
"What are you doing here?"
"I could ask the same to you. Aren't you cold, sleeping in a place like this?"
"Eh? But the weather is so nice!"
"You could still catch a cold, you know."
"Are you worried?"
"As if."
"Ne ne, Marui-kun! Wouldn't it be great if we were to play against each other in high school?"
"Huh? In high school?"
"Yeah! You'll continue to play tennis right?"
"I guess."
"We should play against each other!"
"Eh, sure."
"You mean that?"
"Yeah…"
"Uwaah~ Ure-C~!"
