Maybe he all he's got for her is his momma's ring, but he's gonna put it on her finger and mark her as his.
Maybe all she wants is a kiss on her lips and his arms around her waist for forever and beyond, but she guesses she'll take the ring if that's what it'll mean.

So maybe forever and beyond isn't all it's cracked up to be. So maybe the tiles are cracked and your 'forever and beyond' is falling apart.
But you can't stop this. Not now. Not ever. You're in too far. You can't touch the ground no more. You lie in bed with his arms around you and breathe deep like it might be your last.
Yet it's not. You're alive. Dreadfully alive, filled with regret and hatred and oh god oh god, when did we decide this was a good idea?
You remember the night you promised to each other that you were going to make it through. And even when the dawn is breaking and you're lying in bed with him and there's still some blood trickling from that scratch on his arm, even when you haven't slept a wink and he's been dripping tears into your hair for the last hour- you keep that promise.

Him. They still can't believe that he's here, that he's laying there in a bundle there in her arms.
Maybe she's given up her career, her body, her life for him. Maybe he's given up his job, his dignity, his fighting for him.
Maybe they've both lost something, a piece of the outside world that they won't get back, now that they're stuck inside, hidden from the world for forever and beyond, or just until they're not the targets anymore.
But it's worth it, isn't it? For him, it's worth it.
