Konan was dying. She tried to protect Pein and ended up having 1000 poisonous needles on her.

"If I am god, then I ought to save my children" Pein said miserably.
Konan was in Pein's Arms.
Protected.
Safe.
Pitter Patter, Pitter, Patter
"Pein, if you stay here, you'll catch a cold. You ought to leave me here. Dying" Konan said with a weak smile.
"I don't care. I will stay here. With you. No matter what." Pein said
"Pein..."Konan started "Anything you do or say won't bring me back to life."
"I know that" Pein sighed "I jus-"
"-listen" Konan interrupted "Pein.. um no. I just want to sa-"
"-Say what?" Pein asked quietly leaning his head a little bit closer to Konan's
"Well" Konan explained weakly "I just want to say that this thing called
'life' of mine, well, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I won't forget Akatsuki. And
also, I won't forget You."
"That is because" Konan said closing her eyes
slowly.
"I love you" Konan said. With a smile she closed her eyes.
Pitter Patter
"This rain, this place" Pein said "I won't forget"
"Konan, this woman. I will never forget" Pein closed his eyes as he kissed Konan's
lifeless forehead.
"And this tears." He said quietly.
