It only took a mere glance at him to set her thoughts of resentment, bitterness and… love raging again. He always seemed so distant, so detached from her; acting the perfect Kuchiki heir.
She frowned distastefully, inwardly reprimanding herself for concerning herself over such trivial matters. But as she stood by his side, walking with him down the streets of Seireitei she felt a twinge of disappointment again.
Gone were the days when he showed affection to her, be it waiting for her at breakfast or an encouraging squeeze on the shoulder – such little things, but it meant so much. She desperately wished that she be the one to open up the Ice Prince of Soul Society - to get him out of his withdrawal. But after the incidents regarding Kurosaki Ichigo, her personal goal seemed impossible. Now to get merely a word not relating to Soul Society matters were rare.
Rukia sighed, wanting the old 'Nii-sama' back from when he first adopted her into the Kuchiki clan.
"Rukia?" Her head jerked up to face the captain.
"Nii-sama?"
"Are you okay?"
She gazed longingly at him, feeling the strings of her heart pull. How she wanted to brush away the strands of hair from his forehead to see into the icy expanse of his eyes; to try and survey the innermost secrets they held.
"Here." His left hand held onto her shoulder while the other placed a flower behind her ear. "Sakuras look pretty on you."
It was merely a statement, but Rukia felt her hopes lift. It would take time for him to open up to her – she knew that and was willing to wait.
She glanced at the cherry blossom trees that surrounded them and felt a tug of her lips when a fully blossomed flower fell to rest on Byakuya's hair.

Whoot! I am alive, and writing in the Bleach fandom again for the wonderful pairing 'Byakuya x Rukia'. –sighs- Well, tell me what you thought about it. Not much romance, but a lot of one-sided Rukia to Byakuya implications. Yeah, whatever. Just try squinting, then you might see a MINISCULE glimpse.
