I've been trying to write KanonexEyes for quite some time now, but that pairing is just too damn beautiful, sad, angsty and horrible and I can't do it justice. So I'm fooling around with their younger selves instead. We don't really know anything about their childhood, but I'm guessing that they lived near each other, and I don't think either of them lived with his dad. I see kid!Eyes as still kind of innocent, but Kanone's something else totally. (Plus, I love to mess around with poor innocent kids. :D)

As a note : English's not my mother language, so if there's any mistake, even the slightest, please, please, tell me. Thank you, I hope you enjoy despite the short length :)

(PS : The first person to guess Kanone's song gets a cookie. :D)

Kanone smiles and explains :

— Mom would freak out if she saw me.

Well, of course she would, Eyes thinks, but he lets his friend in without a word. It's weird, because Kanone can walk seemingly without any problem, he's just taking care not to make the hallway's carpet dirty. He goes directly to the bathroom, knowing this house as well as his own, and his best friend frowns and crosses his arms when he starts taking his shirt off.

— Okay, Eyes says with a hint of a stern tone in his voice, so where are you hurt ?

Kanone's head emerges from the shirt, brown hair tousled and golden eyes blinking, and gives him a curious look.

— Nowhere.

Eyes stares. Please, it's not like he's stupid or something ; it might be the first time he got badly hurt, but Kanone's always getting into fights and coming to his house afterwards.

— Then how did you get so much blood on your clothes ?

Kanone laughs then, but Eyes can hear the sharp edge to it and see the weird glow in the cat-slit eyes, and finds it suddenly hard not to shiver.

— You're just crazy, he says before he can think.

Kanone's laugh stops brutally and turns to a bitter, not-quite-smile, and he gazes back with eyes glazed over and far, far away.

— Probably, he says softly.

Eyes blinks and the cheeky joking grin is back. Kanone has always been weird, nothing new, so he shakes the uneasy feeling and helps him to wash the bloody clothes in the bathtub.

The water turns deep red in a second, but it all goes away eventually, and nobody will ever know about it.

When Eyes's mother comes home, they've both changed into some of Eyes's spare pajamas and it's just another improvised sleep-over. Kanone is quietly humming some japanese song about a shooting star ; he smiles when his friend meets his eyes, and everything is normal again.
