Summary: Serena van der Woodsen finds the diary of her great-grandmother, Elizabeth Holland. (Rated T or M, later)

Chapter One: Finding Elizabeth's Diary

"Mom," Serena called out as she was unpacking boxes into the van der Woodsen's house at the Hamptons "what do you want me to do with all the boxes filled with books?"

"I don't know Serena," her mother, Lilly van der Woodsen-Bass(soon to be Lilly Humphrey) called from her room "get Eric to help you."

"Eric's with Jenny and Johnathan."

"Dan?"

"Dan went back to New York with Vanessa, remember? He won't be back until later tonight." She wished that she went with Dan and Vanessa to see her sister's band, Sugardaddy, playing at Tribeca, but she didn't want to seem like the third wheel with them.

"Chuck?"

"Mom! It's Chuck, do you really think he'll miss a day of being horny with Blair to help me load boxes?"

Lilly sighed as she went down the stairs, wearing a white sundress, an off-white purse, white high-heeled sandals and a white hat. Serena's guess was that she was going to the Vanderbilts' White Party thrown by Nate's grandfather for Nate's cousin, Tripp; who was running for congressman.

"Well, I'd like to help you, Serena," her mother said apoligetically "but I'm meeting Rufus at the beach. Then we're going to the Vanderbilts' later."

"But where am I going to put the boxes?" Serena asked, impaitiently.

"Put them in the attic!" she ran up to Serena and kissed her on the cheek. "Love you! Bye!" she called out, then slammed the door.

Serena sighed. Now she really wished that she had taken up Dan and Vanessa's offer. But it was too late now, by the time she would get to New York, the show would've already started and she didn't know where in Tribeca the band was playing. Also, knowing her mother, she would want Serena to have put at least half the boxes gone as soon she got home.

"Well boxes," she muttered to no one in particular "looks like we're going to spend some quality time together!" she grabbed the two smaller boxes and walked up the stairs to the attic.

Two hundred boxes later, Serena saw that there were a lot of really huge ones and a few small one. She grabbed one of the bigger ones, to get them out of the way and walked back up the stairs. As she was walking up to the attic, Serena tripped over a step and all the books from the box fell out. Serena groaned at the mess. Who knew that her mother owned as many books as the Library of Congress? As she was finishing cleaning up, she came across an interesting looking one.

It was a journal, it's cover was a maroon leather and two pieces of the leather were used to bind the book together; like a lock. Serena untied the knot and read the first page.
