Three months. Two failed attempts. And now they were finally going to see each other. Finally.
Carmen sat at a table in the mall cafeteria, constantly checking her phone to see if she had gotten any texts from Chiara. No matter how many times she checked, the only texts she received were from Julchen and Francine, who had been bugging her the entire day about Chiara.
She looked around for the hundredth time, but still no sight of her Girlfriend.
She looked down again, and decided she should text her friends back. But before she had the chance to, she felt arms wrap around her shoulders.
"Hi." Chiara smiled and let go of her.
Carmen quickly stood up and pulled her into a hug, and even though the hug didn't last long, it was the best hug either of them had ever experienced.
Three months they had waited for that hug. And it was completely worth it.
Three months they had waited to make that rare, satisfying eye contact. Three months, waiting to hold hands. Three months waiting for such a simple thing, like holding hands.
Holding hands seemed to be really underappreciated, especially with people who got to do it all the time.
But when there are hundreds of miles between you and the person you long to hold hands with, holding hand becomes an equivalent of gold. And kisses become diamonds, even more valuable than holding hands. Your hands are accustomed to holding things; touching things, but your lips are always hungry for the touch. And when you and your love live so far apart, they starve, and crave only the touch of one person.
When hundreds of miles separate you, you find yourself thinking about your lips, or you brush your fingertips against your lips pretending they're her.
That's what Chiara did. Every time she thought about Carmen, she'd subconsciously touch her lips.
Three months they'd waited for such a simple thing, a simple thing called a kiss, a simple thing that was worth diamonds to them.
Finally.
