A/N: A little Black cat one shot. Hopefully I can start posting a proper multi-chapter once I have the time.
Summary: Train visits Saya.
Vengeance Becomes Redemption
Some people say vengeance is like a poison, a deadly toxin that infiltrates the very soul and strips it bare. They say the path of vengeance only destroys the one who treads it, the corruption slowly taking over until there is nothing else left.
There are then those who view it as mother's milk. It nourishes their inner desires of anger and hatred, allowing these dark emotions to thrive. Vengeance in turn, gives them a reason to survive when they feel there is nothing more to hold them to the world.
Train Heartnet, ex-Chronos member and now Sweeper, stood beneath a large tree, his golden eyes tracing the design of a roughly-edged memorial stone. This was his first visit.
There was a time when those sayings held truth for him. When vengeance was his highest priority.
"...when it fuelled my will to go on and haunted my dreams." He whispered. "A plague to torment every waking moment with the memory of you..."
Golden eyes closed at the thought.
"Oh Saya, I used to think I could live each day in a semblance of something normal, treasuring the freedom you inspired in me." He said. "That's why I became a Sweeper...but then someone would whisper his name or a rumour would surface of his whereabouts and just like that, I would lose track of everything except my desire to get revenge."
Revenge for what he did. To kill him for killing you.
"After months of hunting him down, after all the promises and attempts to kill him...I never imagined it would end as it did. I never thought I would hesitate."
Train's eyes blinked open and he sighed softly.
"Saya, I never thought that once I was given the perfect opportunity, that I would let Creed walk away with his life."
Redemption...it truly is a deserved punishment. To let someone live out the rest of their life and atone for their sins, instead of taking the easy way out by death. For death is an easy option compared to the other horrors the world holds.
"I didn't believe I had it in me to show mercy to someone like him."
Train dropped a single flower beside the memorial stone; a bright carnation.
"Redemption was the harder choice...but I have no regrets." He said. "It defines everything I have done since leaving Chronos. To live my life free and not cause anymore unnecessary deaths, to be my own master and protect those who are unable to defend themselves..."
...because vengeance is a disease not a cure and the world is never simple.
Train turned to leave.
"Saya...I believe I can finally let you go."
A/N: Please review. Kinda short and with a few holes in the idea, but I liked it.
