A normal day in my oh so normal life. Dropping my younger sister Prim to school, get the groceries, do my chores and then meet my best friend Gale in our local coffee shop. It's became a habit when we were 16 now I'm 21 and still nothing had changed. When Gale and I were kids we used to meet in the woods behind my house everyday but we kind of grew out of that a few years ago.
Since Gale was usual late I already ordered a green tea and a coffee for him. I had this weird thing when I was a kid I would just eat and drink things that had the word green in it or were actually green because it was my favorite color. And since then Green Tea had always been my favorite kind of tea.
Gale was usually about 10 minutes late while I was usually 10 minutes early so I always used those 20 minutes to read in the book my dad gave me before he died last year. I don't even remember how many times I had read that book but at least 5 or 6 times. It was called 'The Hanging Tree' and was a mystery novel I really started to love.
When I had read around 15 pages I felt like someone was watching me and I looked up kind of expecting Gale to creep up on me but it wasn't him. No not at all. Rather the opposite. A young man probably my age sat at the table across from me. Bright blonde hair and such beautiful blue eyes. I caught myself staring at him not even noticing that he had looked up.
When I finally got myself together I looked down to my book. Opened it and started to read. Or at least I pretended to. A few minutes later I looked up again and saw him drawing something on a piece of paper. From that distance I couldn't make anything out but why did I even care.
Around 20 minutes later Gale hadn't shown up and I was finished with my tea. Usually he'd have send me a text if something was wrong. Then I looked back to the young man. Just to see that he was gone but the piece of paper he had left. Curiosity got the best of me and I stood up to look at the white sheet.
I saw the bird that was on the cover of my book. It looked amazing a little different then on the cover but beyond beautiful. A scribbled name was next to it but besides that it started with "P". I left the coffee shop I had been sitting for the past 40 minutes and was on the way back to Prims school. The painting still stuck in my head as well as those deep blue eyes.
And then every other day I went to the coffee shop he was there. Sitting there and drawing until he would leave. Leaving it on the table for me to find. On Friday I walked up to his table after he had left and it was a drawing of me. This time he outdid himself. The drawing had so many details - I think I never saw something that beautiful and then it was me. He did that drawing of me. A huge smile appeared on my face.
"Do you like it?" A unknown voice asked. I turned around and saw the boy with the blonde hair. "It's amazing." I stuttered. Feeling the heat rushing into my cheeks. "I'm Peeta." The boy smiled at me his eyes sparkling. "Katniss." I answered. He sat down next to me and time just flew by while we talked.
"Guys sorry but we're closing in a few minutes." One of the employees came up to us. I hadn't noticed how late it had become. Peeta smiled at me. "Can I meet you here again tomorrow?" I smiled back and nodded. We left the cafe and then departed after a while when he had to go into a different direction to go home. Peeta Mellark. The son of our local baker. One of the most talented and nicest people I've ever met. And there was no way to describe how much I was looking forward to see him tomorrow.
