(A/N) I got assigned a poem on heroes for school and thought, who better to do it on than InuYasha? Do you think InuYasha ever thinks of himself as a hero?
Have you ever thought yourself a hero?
You seek to get stronger, you'd do anything,
It mattered not if it was winter or spring.
You never saw the beauty of the things all around you,
Only sought, for yourself, strength and power anew.
But you saw that there are ways, ways not destructive, or by force,
To carve out your place, there was another course.
A person that you see, you never thought, never knew,
Would provide you a feeling from out of the blue.
You suddenly seek to protect and to fight,
Not for you own sake, but for the one you love's plight.
You find yourself choosing, not to strengthen your blade,
But to stand and protect the ones who need aid.
You're powerful, but find yourself, now, not after new strength,
But pausing to do good things, and at length,
You find yourself caring for others,
And giving up what you want for the sake of another,
A feeling you're not used to.
This swelling of your heart, do you recognize it?
Being separated makes it feel as though your heart has split.
No one has ever seen you cry,
But you shed your first tear when your love might die.
That self of old, that sought only power,
Would you consider that person a cowered?
Or a fool, so stupid, not to see,
The real way to be strong, the real way to be free,
Of all desire for something more,
To be completely content; to feel your spirit soar,
Companionship and love, not violence unending,
Though you try to be strong, you can't go on pretending,
To not feel, to not be,
To not cry, not to scream,
Love and kindness are the way, to find yourself, truly content,
But a hero?
Have you ever thought yourself a hero?
You have saved and protected countless lives, but a hero?
How could anyone call you a hero?
You are only human.
